Hanson boys, Freeman girls claim multiple team titles in Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER — The Dan Clarke Relays was held in conjunction with the Cornbelt Conference track and field meet on Thursday. The Cornbelt Conference meet was rescheduled from last week. 

The Hanson boys won the Dan Clarke Relays with 123 points, ahead of Viborg-Hurley (100) and Freeman (86). The Freeman girls won the Dan Clarke Relays with 85 points, finishing ahead of Scotland-Menno (77) and Hanson (66). 

The Hanson boys won the Cornbelt Conference title with 174 points, finishing ahead of Freeman (128) and Viborg-Hurley (121). The Freeman girls won the conference title with 125 points, edging Scotland-Menno (124). Hanson (102.5) placed third. 

The conference individual results were not available. 

In the Dan Clarke Relays, Hanson’s Sutton Dewald took the 100-meter dash (11.46), Cole Dewald won the 800-meter race (2:02.84), while Keaton Weber won the pole vault (11-06) and the long jump (21-00) for the Beavers.

Viborg-Hurley’s Jacob Graves took the 110-meter hurdles (15.73) and 300-meter hurdles (41.67). Andrew Madsen won the high jump (5-10) for the Cougars. Graves, Godwin Johnson, Lincoln Vannorsdel and Brady Schroedermeier took the 400-meter relay (45.08).

Freeman’s Luke Miller, Tate Sorenson, Luke Peters and Chris Aasen won the 800-meter relay (1:34.13). Miller, Peters, Sorenson and Braydan Mangel won the 1,600-meter relay (3:34.78) while Miller, Lane McCune, Brody Sorenson and Mangel took the 3,200-meter relay (8:37.77) as well.

Bridgewater-Emery’s Parker Burke won the 200-meter dash (23.44) and Holden Wollmann claimed the 400-meter dash (51.57)

Mitchell Christian’s Silas Holdeman claimed the 3,200-meter race (10:34.79) and was part of a quartet with Jason Baas, Auston Twiggs and Luke Mentele that won the sprint medley relay (3:42.92).

Canistota’s Adam Kleinsasser took the shot put event (46-04) while Jaden Kleinsasser won the discus throw (155-05).

Freeman Academy/Marion’s Finley McConniel took the 1,600-meter race (4:35.34).

Hunter Yosten from Scotland/Menno won the javelin toss (145-04).

McCook Central-Montrose’s Owen Schmidt won the triple jump for the Cougars (41-01.75).

In girls action, Freeman’s Rylee Peters won 100-meter hurdles (15.89) and the 300-meter hurdles (47.65). Mackenzie Scharberg won the long jump competition (16-05.75). In relays, Cadence Hofer, Scharberg, Peters and Vaida Amann won the 800-meter relay (1:51.38) and the 1,600-meter relay (4:12.51).

Chester’s Emmerson Eppard won the 1,600-meter race (5:30.41) and Claire McDonal captured the 3,200-meter run (12:32.56). In relays, Ivy Moyer, Lizzie Peterson, Katelyn Schut and Kaitlyn Swenson won the 400-meter relay. Peterson, Schut, Eppard and Jacy Wolf earned the sprint medley relay (4:27.27) as well.

Howard’s Melanie Calmus took both the 100-meter (12.77) and 200-meter (26.66) dashes.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Liz Boschee took the high jump event (5-00). Boschee, Alexa Goertz, Lainey Goertz and Andie Aughenbaugh won the 3,200-meter relay (10:33.85) for the Blackhawks as well.

Scotland/Menno’s Trinity Bietz won the shot put (40-02) and discus throw (128-01).

Irene-Wakona’s Brenna Lyngstad notched the top spot in the 800-meter race (2:28.09) while Emily Oien claimed the pole vault competition (7-06).

Canistota’s Allison Leber won the 400-meter dash (1:01.59)

Viborg-Hurley’s Olivia Hanson won the javelin throw (105-00).

Gayille-Volin’s Jolie Westrum took the triple jump event (34-01.50).
