Ipswich girls, Philip boys lead Class B standings after Day 1 of state track

SIOUX FALLS — The Ipswich girls and Philip boys sit atop the team leaderboards after Day 1 of the South Dakota state track and field meet. 

The Ipswich girls have 21 points, ahead of Warner (16) and Burke (15). The Philip boys currently have 28 points, followed by Avon (14) and Jones County (12). 

Ipswich’s score was boosted by 18 points in the pole vault. Jalyssa Hutson tallied 10 points with a first-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 11-feet. Marley Guthmiller finished second in the pole vault at 10-feet, earning eight points for the Tigers. 

Ipswich’s 3,200-meter relay team logged two points with a seventh-place finish. Tristan Geditz added an eight-place finish in the discus.

The Philip boys were boosted by two first-place finishes and a second-place finish on Thursday. The Scotties sprint medley relay team of Teagan Gropper, Tyce Gropper, David McKinley and Baylor Burns won in 3:36.84. Philip’s 3,200-meter relay team of Aidan Craven, David McKinley, Jack Peterson and Trey Larson won in 8:22.13. Philip’s Evan Kroetch added a second-place finish in the discus for eight points.
