July 16 Legion Baseball Roundup - Groton stuns Clark/Willow Lake with late comeback win

Groton 5, Clark/Willow Lake 4

GROTON — Braxton Imrie grounded into a fielder’s choice to score the game-winning run as Groton walked-off Clark/Willow Lake in Legion action Wednesday.

Imrie drove in a run, drawing one walk in the win, Karsten Fliehs recorded two hits and two RBIs, Gavin Englund tallied three hits, Carter Simon drove in a run on two hits while Brevin Fliehs tallied an RBI single in the win. Nick Morris allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks in seven innings, striking out one.

For CWL, Jakob Steen took the loss surrendering four runs on seven hits and a walk in 3.1 innings, striking out four. Will Hovde tallied an RBI on one hit, Waylan Olson totaled two RBIs on one hit and one walk, while Watson Grantham tallied an RBI in the loss.


Dell Rapids 8, Volga 4

VOLGA — Dell Rapids battled back from a four-run deficit to beat Volga in Legion action Wednesday.

Cole Ruesink led the comeback victory with three hits, two doubles, and two RBIs, Gauge Bunkers tallied two hits and an RBI, Matt Nelson drove in two runs on one hit, Drake Eastman tallied an RBI while Connor Hanson had an RBI on one hit in the win. Hanson took the victory on the mound in four innings, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four.

For Volga, Bret Milton took the loss in six innings, surrendering eight runs on nine hits. Milton drove in two runs on a hit and a walk, Jake Burns recorded an RBI single while Broden Teske had an RBI walk. Tate Steffensen tallied two hits and a walk in the loss as well.


Colton 4, Alexandria 1

ALEXANDRIA — Alex Wingen drove in two runs and struck out six batters as Colton defeated Alexandria in Legion action Wednesday.

Wingen drove in two runs on two hits, including a double, while tossing 3.2 shutout innings, allowing two hits and three walks, striking out six. Brody Dybvig drove in a run on two hits, including a triple, while Nathan Madison added an RBI on one hit in the win.

For Alexandria, Ben Wilber allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in 3.2 innings, striking out six. Wilber tallied two hits, a double, and an RBI in the loss for Alexandria.


Elk Point/Jefferson 3, Dakota Valley 1

ELK POINT — A three-run inning lifted Elk Point/Jefferson past Dakota Valley for a Legion baseball victory Wednesday.

Luke Swatek drove in two runs on one hit while Ethan Bovill and Levi Hanson each had hits in the win. Keaton Gale pitched 2.2 innings for EPJ, allowing one hit in 2.2 innings, striking out four.

For DV, Sterling Schauff allowed three runs on three hits and three walks in five innings, striking out five. Jack Wiese tallied two hits while Jake Pick drove in a run on one hit in the loss.


Madison 7, Scotland/Menno/Freeman/Canistota 2

MADISON — Cale Johnson drove in four runs as Madison defeated Scotland/Menno/Freeman/Canistota in Legion action Wednesday.

Johnson drove in four runs on three hits, including a two-run homer, Tregg McGillivray added an RBI on one hit while Carson Wolf collected two hits and a walk in the win. Cohen Hahn tossed five innings for Madison, allowing two runs on nine hits and five walks while striking out four.

For SMFC, Bryce Sattler tossed 5.2 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and a walk, striking out five. Evan Scharberg drove in two runs on one hit, while Sattler, Erick Buechler and Oliver Waltner each tallied two hits in the loss.


Parkston 8, Crofton (Neb.) 5

CROFTON — A five-run inning powered Parkston to a comeback victory over Crofton, Nebraska, in Legion action Wednesday.

Taite Klumb drove in three runs on a double and a walk, Kolter Kramer added two RBIs on a hit, James Deckert tallied two walks and an RBI, Jaxx Kurtenbach collected an RBI on a hit and a walk while Carter Sommer recorded a hit and a walk in the win. Sommer also took the victory on the mound in three shutout innings, allowing just one walk while striking out seven.


Winner/Colome 12, Chamberlain 0 (5 innings)

WINNER — Winner/Colome pounded out 13 hits as Winner/Colome shutout Chamberlain in Legion baseball action Wednesday.

Landon Calhoon tallied two hits, one double, and two RBIs, Gavin Risse added two RBIs on one hit, Ryder Haligan tallied two hits and an RBI, Konner Obsorn netted an RBI on one hit and two walks, Kellen Brozik recorded an RBI on one hit, Zac Olson had an RBI walk while Jackson Eisemann totaled three hits in the win. Osborn earned the victory on the mound in four shutout innings, allowing two hits and four walks.

For Chamberlain, Xavier Donovan allowed six runs on five hits and two walks in 1.1 innings. London Houska, Isaac Shepherd and Jeric Klages each tallied hits in the loss.


Watertown 7, Brookings 3

WATERTOWN — Kaden Rylance recorded three RBIs as Watertown put away Brookings in Legion action Wednesday.

Rylance drove in three runs on two hits, Nathan Briggs tallied an RBI on two hits, Hayden Ries and Mitch Olson each added two hits while Jackson McClemans and Carter Buisker each drove in runs in the win. Talan Jurgens earned the victory on the mound in a complete game performance, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in seven innings, striking out four.

For Brookings, Talon Hyde took the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits and two walks in six innings, striking out two. Jay Harris, Kysin Reuer and Jase Bauer each tallied an RBI in the loss.


Hot Springs 10, Gordon (Neb.) 6

HOT SPRINGS — Nikolas Cruz struck out five batters as Hot Springs earned a Legion baseball victory Wednesday.

Cruz allowed just one hit and one walk in three shutout innings, striking out five in the win. York Naze tallied two hits, a double, and two RBIs, Torin Knight collected an RBI on one hit while Cruz added two hits in the win.
