July 2 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Canova dominates in CornBelt League victory Tuesday

Canova Gang 15, Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks 5 (7 innings)

CANOVA — Canova drove in 15 runs on 16 hits in a mercy rule victory over Hartford/Humboldt Tuesday night.

Jared Miller and Kendall Gassman led the way with seven hits, two walks, and seven RBIs, including a homer by Miller and two doubles by Gassman.

Justin Miller tallied three hits, a walk and an RBI, Cole Gassman drove in two runs on two hits, while Jack Nieses, Derek Miller, Trey Krier, Tucker Gassman, and Tim Gassman each drove in a run on one hit.

Derek Miller earned the victory on the mound for Canova, allowing six hits in six shutout innings, striking out nine batters.

For H/H,  Logan Larson took the loss in 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits, four walks, and six  runs, striking out five.

Chase Vessells drove in a run on two hits, Dominick Chandaswang drove in two runs on a double, while Jearl Jesson and Gage Nelson each tallied hits in the loss.


Yankton Tappers 5, Vermillion Red Sox 4

YANKTON — Yankton came back from a three-run deficit to defeat Vermillion in amateur baseball action Tuesday night.

Kieren Luellman earned the victory on the mound, allowing six hits, three walks, and four runs in seven innings pitched. Samuel Kampshoff pitched the final two frames, allowing just one walk, striking out four batters.

Joe Gokie drove in one run on one hit and one walk, while Mac Ryken collected an RBI as well. Brett Cooley and Josh Sheldon tallied two hits apiece, while Rugby Ryken, Colin Zahrbock, and Mitch Gullickson each tallied hits.

For Vermillion, Jake Jensen took the loss in seven innings pitched, allowing nine hits, one walk, and five runs, striking out six.

Carter Kratz drove in two runs on a double, Cole Anderson and Willis Robertson each drove in a run, while Charlie Ward tallied two hits in the loss as well.


Renner Rangers 8, Elkton Snappers 6

RENNER — A six-run eighth-inning helped Renner earn a comeback victory over Elkton in amateur baseball action Tuesday night.

Kenny Tomek batted 4-for-5 with two RBIs, Caleb Van Wagoner drove in two runs on two hits, and Dane Yde batted 1-for-2 with three walks and an RBI.

Tomek earned the victory on the mound for Renner, allowing seven hits, four walks, and three runs, striking out 11 batters.

For Elkton, Logan Kuehl took the loss in two innings pitched, allowing six hits, three walks, and six runs.

Kellan Sattler and Aidan Stewart each drove in a run on two hits, including two doubles by Stewart. Eliot Erickson drove in another run on one hit, while Brady Steffen tallied two hits, including a double, in the loss.


Madison Dairy Queen Broncos 4, Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks 1

HUMBOLDT — Aspen Dahl’s eight strikeouts helped Madison defeat Hartford/Humboldt in CornBelt League action Tuesday night.

Dahl allowed four hits and one earned run in six innings pitched, striking out eight batters to earn the victory on the mound.

Trey Smith, Dawson Bakker, and Greg Biagi paced the Broncos offense tallying six combined hits driving in all four runs, including a double by Biagi.

Heith Williams, Tyler Tappe, and Peyton Wolf each tallied hits in the win as well.

For H/H, Cole Barthel took the loss allowing four hits, two walks, and three runs in six innings, striking out four batters.

Ryan Healy drove in the lone run for the Gamecocks on a double, while Briggs Havlik and Blake Svoboda each tallied doubles as well. Broc Haldeman recorded two hits in the loss for H/H.


Dell Rapids PBR 8, Flandreau Blue Teal 2

FLANDREAU — Drew Sweeter drove in three runs in a CornBelt League victory over Flandreau Tuesday night.

Sweeter batted 2-for-4 with a walk, double, and three RBIs, Connor Spindler drove in one run on one hit, Zach Puetz collected two hits, including a double, Chris Kropuenske drove in a run, while Weston Hansen, Riley Calhoon, Nate McKee, and Matt Gillogy each tallied hits in the win.

Trey Randel earned the victory on the mound tossing 11 strikeouts, while surrendering two runs on seven hits and three walks.

For Flandreau, Ethan Johnson took the loss in seven innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and nine walks, striking out five.

Ethan Hoffman and Tristan Peters each tallied an RBI on one hit, Gage Sharping and Tanner Christensen each cracked two hits, while Paul Mc Glone, Kolby Peters, and Sam Gassman each tallied hits in the loss.


Dell Rapids Mudcats 8, Salem Cubs 3

SALEM — Kris Regas struck out 17 batters in a CornBelt League victory over the Salem Cubs Tuesday night.

Regas allowed just one unearned run on three hits and a walk in seven innings, striking out 17 batters along the way to earn the victory on the mound for Dell Rapids.

Mark Abrahamson and Josh Roeman led the Mudcat Offense with a combined six RBIs. Abrahamson drove in three runs on three hits and a walk, including two home runs, while Roeman batted 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Dusty Haffeman and Spencer Freudenthal each drove in a run on a combined three walks, while Carter Gullickson batted 2-for-4 with a walk and a triple.

For Salem, Braeden Kerkhove took the loss in 6.1 innings pitched, allowing seven runs on seven hits and five walks, striking out seven batters.

Peyton Cleveland drove in one run on one hit, while Bobby Koepsell, Kyle Tuschen, Hakeem Yatim, and Isaac Anderson each tallied hits in the loss.
