July 22 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Chamberlain picks up District 3B tourney win over Plankinton

Chamberlain 4, Plankinton 1

KIMBALL — Evan Stiener struck out 19 batters and belted a home run as Chamberlain picked up a District 3B amateur baseball tournament win on Saturday. 

Stiener scattered nine hits, walked two batters and allowed one earned runs on 144 pitches in his complete-game performance. He finished 2 of 4 at the plate. 

Mike Schwartz went 1 of 3 and also hit a solo shot. Ian Anderson added two hits and an RBI. Jaylen Uthe drove in a run. 

For Plankinton, Hunter Pranger, Devin Mehlhaff and Sean DeVries had two hits apiece. Pranger in a solo home run. Mehlhaff started and allowed three earned runs on six hits, while striking out five batters and issuing one walk in six innings. 


Wessington Springs 6, Colome 5

KIMBALL — Wessington Springs used a three-run seventh inning to secure a District 3B amateur baseball tournament win on Saturday 

Parker DeJean powered the Owls, finishing 3 of 4 and recording a two-run double in the seventh for a 6-5 lead. DeJean also hit a solo homer in the fifth inning. DeJean threw 3.2 scoreless relief innings and allowed three hits. 

Drew Olinger finished with four hits and drove in a run. Terrek Butterfield and Tyson Lien had two hits apiece. Cade Mohling and Dalton Mogck each drove in runs. Mason Schelske scattered nine hits, allowed five earned runs, zero walks and struck out four batters in his 5.1-inning start. 

For Colome, Carter Dye finished 3 of 4 and drove in two runs. Aaron Sundquist, Joey Cole and Riley Orel had two hits apiece. Cole hit a solo homer in the sixth inning, while Carter Brickman belted a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Cole started the first six innings, scattering 10 hits, five earned runs, issuing six walks and striking out three batters. 


Dell Rapids Mudcats 14, Madison 2 (7 innings)

FLANDREAU — Dalton Lehnen struck out 12 batters as the Dell Rapids Mudcats picked up a District 4B amateur baseball tournament win on Saturday. 

Lehnen allowed four hits, two earned runs and issued one walk on 93 pitches. He added two hits and drove in two runs at the plate. Grant Olson and Trevor Freudenthal had two hits apiece, while Olson drove in two runs. Ty Hoglund hit a solo home run, while Kris Regas drove in three runs. Mark Abrahamson knocked in two runs. 

For Madison, Heith Williams, Mitch McNary, Matt Burpee and Tyler Tappe each had hits. McNary and Burpee drove in runs. Riley Kearin took the loss after allowing three hits, seven earned runs, seven walks and had zero strikeouts in his 1.2-inning start.


Flandreau 6, Dell Rapids PBR 2

FLANDREAU — Flandreau held off Dell Rapids PBR for a District 4B amateur baseball tournament victory on Saturday. 

Beau Severtson led Flandreau with two hits and drove in three runs. Luke Gassman added three hits and an RBI. Dallas Schneiderman earned the win after allowing five hits, two earned runs, two walks and struck out six batters in his seven-inning start. 

For PBR, Riley Hoffman and Weston Hansen had two hits apiece. Trey Randel took the loss after allowing nine hits, five earned runs, four walks and struck out seven batters in his seven-inning start.


Canova 15, Salem 4 (8 innings)

FLANDREAU — Canova used three big innings to help secure a District 4B amateur baseball tournament win on Saturday. The Gang scored five runs in the first, four in the fourth and five more in the eighth inning.

Jared Miller recorded four of Canova’s 16 hits and drove in a run. Cole Gassman had three hits and knocked in three runs. Justin Miller added two hits and two RBI. Riley Genzlinger had two hits. Caleb Carmichael, Garrett Gassman and Tim Gassman both drove in two runs apiece. Trey Krier earned the win after allowing 14 hits, three earned runs, two walks and struck out one batter in his eight-inning start.

For Salem, Brian Duxbury had two hits and hammered a two-run homer. Steve Mehlbrech, Tyler Earls, Jacob Vonberge and Tyler Cleveland had two hits apiece. Isaac Anderson took the loss after allowing 12 hits, nine earned runs, five walks and struck out four batters in his 6.1-inning start.
