July 27 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Corsica-Stickney tops Parkston Devil Rays to avoid elimination in District 5B tourney

Corsica-Stickney 11, Parkston Devil Rays 5

PARKSTON — Corsica-Stickney avoided elimination in the District 5B amateur baseball tournament on Thursday. The Horned Frogs will play Mount Vernon on Friday in another elimination game. 

The Horned Frogs received home runs from Luke Bamberg and Keifer Johnson to stay alive in the tournament. Lamberg finished 3 of 4 and drove in three runs. Johnson had two hits and knocked in three runs. Caleb Crist finished 3 of 4, while Aaron Groeneweg had two hits and an RBI. Blake Moke earned the win after 10 strikeouts, two earned runs on eight hits and walked five batters in a complete-game outing. 

For the Parkston Devil Rays, Jay Storm had three hits and drove in a run. Jake Helleloid had two hits and an RBI. Storm took the loss after allowing two earned runs on two hits and struck out two batters in his one-inning start. 


Parkston Mudcats 10, Mount Vernon 6

PARKSTON — Brady Nolz pitched a complete game and the Parkston Mudcats hammered two home runs to secure a spot in the Class B amateur baseball state tournament. The state tournament is Aug. 2-13 in Mitchell. 

Nolz struck out five batters, allowed four earned runs on 14 hits and walked one batter on 106 pitches. Cole Knippling finished 2 of 5 and drove in five runs, including a three-run homer. Nate Doering finished 2 of 5 and drove in three runs, including a two-run blast. Matt Malloy and Billy Hamilton had four hits and drove in a run apiece. Dan Bonte and Luke Bormann added hits. 

For Mount Vernon, Briggs Havlik had three hits and drove in a run. Koby Larson finished 2 of 2 and drove in two runs. Bradley Dean and Deric Denning had two hits and an RBI apiece. Chase Hetland and Eric Giblin had two hits apiece. Brady Albrecht had a hit. Luke Tiesler took the loss after allowing nine hits, five earned runs, one walk and struck out one batter in his five-inning start. 

The Mustangs will play Corsica-Stickney on Friday in an elimination game. 


Madison 10, Dell Rapids PBR 6 

FLANDREAU — Madison defeated Dell Rapids PBR in District 4B amateur baseball tournament action on Thursday. 

Ty Jorgenson led Madison with three hits, while Mitch McNary and Matt Burpee had two hits apiece. Trey Smith and Tyler Tappe knocked in two runs apiece. Aspen Dahl struck out seven batters, scattered 10 hits and allowed four earned runs in his 7.1-inning start.

For PBR, Reece Arbogast had three hits and an RBI. Riley Hoffman added two hits and an RBI. Trey Randall took the loss after allowing five earned runs on seven hits and struck out one batter in his 5.1-inning start.
