Parkston Devil Rays 9, Parkston Mudcats 4

MOUNT VERNON — The Devil Rays pounded out 12 hits to upend the Mudcats in a cross-town showdown and advance to the state tournament for the first time in team history.

Dylan Soulek launched a three-run homer in the win, Seth Muth added two RBIs on two hits, including a triple, Ty Neugebauer and Jake Helleloid each tallied two hits and an RBI, including a solo homer from Neugebauer, Caden Donahue recorded two hits while Tanner Dyk added an RBI on a hit and a walk in the win. Nolan Dvorak pitched 7.1 innings for the Rays, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out four.

For the Mudcats, Brady Nolz allowed nine runs on nine hits and a walk in four innings of his start, striking out three. Jeff Harris had two hits, one homer, driving in two runs, Cullen Verville launched a solo home run while Spencer Freudenthal added an RBI single in the loss.

The Mudcats will face Corsica Friday for the final spot in District 5B.


Platte Killer Tomatoes 9, Corsica Horned Frogs 2 

MOUNT VERNON — Platte racked up 10 hits en route to a District 5B amateur baseball tournament win on Thursday.

Platte’s Grant Doom finished with two hits, drove in three runs and smacked a home run. Michael Buitenbos added three hits and drove in a run. Grayson Hanson drove in a pair of runs, while Hayden Kuiper, Richard Sternberg, Matt Link and Dawson Hoffman had hits. Travis Gant struck out two batters, allowed four hits, zero runs and two walks in 6.2 innings for the win. Hoffman struck out six batters, and allowed zero hits through 2.1 scoreless relief innings. 

For Corsica, Brendan Wentland drove in a run. Tyson Wentland, Logan Bakker and Reggie Slaba had hits. Nathan Blom took the loss, allowing nine hits, seven earned runs, four walks and struck out seven batters in 7.1 innings.

Corsica will play the Parkston Mudcats on Friday for the final spot in District 5B. 


Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks 16, Flandreau Blue Teal 11

MADISON — Hartford/Humboldt recorded 18 hits as the Gamecocks pulled away from Flandreau for a spot in the state tournament Thursday.

Kyle Konechne had five RBIs on four hits, including a home run, Jonah Rechtenbaugh had two RBIs on three hits, one double, Blake Svoboda tallied two RBIs on two hits and two walks, Cam Quigley added three hits, a double, two walks, and an RBI, Devon Garry had two hits and an RBI, while Joe Hanisch and Chad Morrison each had an RBI on one hit in the win. Rechtenbaugh took the win on the mound allowing five runs on 11 hits and four walks in nine innings, striking out 12.

For Flandreau, Tristan Peters allowed 12 runs on 13 hits and a walk in 4.1 innings, striking out five. Tash Lunday batted 5-for-5 with two homers, driving in five runs in the loss. Mason Riley had three hits and an RBI, Kolby Peters had three RBIs on two hits, one homer, Emmot Nathan and Dane Mediger each had two hits and an RBI, while Tanner Christenson had two hits in the loss.

 

 

Flandreau Cardinals 17, Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks 2 (6 innings)

MADISON — Flandreau pounded out 13 hits as it earned a spot in the state tournament Thursday.

Luke Gassman had three RBIs on three hits and two walks, Brian McGuire had two RBIs on two hits and a walk, JaColby Anderson and Jacob Patterson each tallied an RBI on two hits, combining for three walks, Noel Burgoes added an RBI on a hit and two walks while Austin Koenig and Austin King combined for three RBIs on three hits and three walks in the win. Bret Severtson allowed two runs on four hits and three walks in five innings, striking out four to take the win on the mound.

For the Wood Ducks, Clint Den Boer allowed five runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings to take the loss. Nathan Adrian had two hits while Hayden Whiting and Caden Alfson each tallied an RBI on one hit in the loss.

Crofton (Neb.) Blue Jays 7, Lesterville Broncs 0

WYNOT — Zach Hegge and Wilson Munzke tossed 12 combined strikeouts to shutout Lesterville in District 6B tourney action Thursday.

Hegge allowed four hits and four walks in five shutout innings, tossing 10 strikeouts while Munzke recorded two strikeouts in four innings, surrendering just a hit and two walks in the win. Seth Wiebelhaus and Austin Gobel each drove in a run on two hits, Tyler Koch and Colton Schieffer each added an RBI on one hit, including a solo homer from Koch, James Kaiser recorded three RBIs on two hits, one double, while Hegge and Munzke each tallied two hits in the win.

For Lesterville, Alex Wagner allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk in seven innings, striking out five. Derek Quame had three hits in the loss for the Broncs.


Wynot Expos 6, Irene Cardinals 3

WYNOT — Back-to-back two-run frames powered Wynot over Irene in District 6B tournament action Thursday.

Peyton Wieseler had three hits, two doubles, and a walk, Devin Lammers added two RBIs on two hits and a walk, Jackson Subeck recorded two hits, Lee Heimes added two walks and an RBI while Landon Wieseler and Zach Foxhoven each had base hits in the win. Subeck took the win on the mound in four shutout innings, allowing two hits and four hit batters, striking out four.

For Irene, Jake DeLange took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks in three innings. Cole Edberg had two RBIs on two hits, Anthony De La Torre Guglielmana tallied an RBI on one hit, while Preston Gall recorded two hits, one double, in the loss.


Groton Locke Electric 11, Faulkton Hitmen 10 (10 innings)

FAULKTON — Ben Althoff scored on a wild pitch to walk it off as Groton punched its ticket to the state tournament Thursday.

Althoff batted 5-for-6 with two doubles in the win, Jonah Schmidt had four RBIs on a homer and a walk, Brian Hansen added two hits while Ty Sieber recorded five hits, three doubles, and two RBIs in the win. Ryan Groeblinghoff allowed one run on three hits and three walks in 3.1 innings, striking out one in the win.

For Faulkton, Layne Cotton took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks in 3.1 innings, striking out four. Cotton also batted 2-for-6 with a walk and two homers, driving in three runs, Blaze Herdman drew four walks and drove in a run, while Beau Kirsch and Jett Kleinsasser each drove in a run on one hit in the loss.


Four Corners 6, Colome Chaos 1

CHAMBERLAIN — Austin Hand tossed eight strong innings as Four Corners clinched a spot in the state tournament Thursday.

Hand allowed one run on seven hits and a walk in eight innings of work, striking out three in the win. Andrew Coverdale had two RBIs on three hits, Matt Lusk recorded two hits and a walk, Brad Hand and Garrett Stout each had an RBI on one hit, while Jack Van Camp drove in a run in the win as well.

For Colome, Ethan Vobr pitched six innings, allowing one run on seven hits in the loss. Layton Thieman had three hits, Carter Brickman added two hits and a walk, while Joey Cole batted 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.

Colome will face Wessington Springs Friday for the final spot in the District 3B tournament.


Elk Point Colt .45’s 6, Lennox/Chancellor/Worthing Dirt Devils 2

LENNOX — Logan Bobzin tossed five shutout innings as Elk Point clinched a spot in the state tournament Thursday.

Bobzin allowed just two hits and one hit batter in five shutout innings, striking out eight to earn the win on the mound. Bobzin, Kayden Moore and Keaton Gale each had an RBI on one hit, Ty Trometer had three hits, a double, and two RBIs, Jaxon Hennies recorded two hits and a walk while Collin Lefevre tallied two hits in the win.

For Lennox/Chancellor/Worthing, Dylan Vosberg took the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks in three innings, striking out three. Brett Duncan had two hits and an RBI, Camden Berndt tallied an RBI on one hit while Mikey Kocer notched two hits in the loss.


Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels 12, Tea Steam 2 (7 innings)

SIOUX FALLS — Cam Gadbois struck out 14 batters as Sioux Falls defeated Tea to open East District tournament action Thursday.

Gadbois allowed just two runs on four hits and a walk in seven innings, striking out 14 to take the win on the mound. Jack Simonsen recorded four singles and three RBIs, Connor Hurley added three RBIs on two hits, Kyle Gulbrandson recorded four hits, a double, and two RBIs, Trevor Hurley added two hits and an RBI, Lucas Wilber had an RBI on two walks, while Jaxen DeHann had an RBI on a hit and a walk in the win.

For Tea, Austin Portner took the loss, surrendering seven runs on six hits and three walks in 2.1 innings, striking out one. Troy Ljunggren had two hits, one double, while Jerod Cyrus added two RBIs on a hit and a walk in the loss.


Renner Monarchs 10, Brandon Belugas 2

RENNER — Ryan Hander struck out 12 Belugas as the defending state champs opened East District tourney action with a win Thursday.

Hander allowed one run on five hits in six innings of work, striking out 12 in the win. Josh Olson had three RBIs on two hits, including a homer, Aiden Ladd and Adam Durfee each tallied two RBIs on one hit, including a homer from Durfee, Chaz Palmer added three hits and an RBI, Jaxon Rosencranz collected an RBI single while JT Mix had two hits, a double, and an RBI in the win.

For Brandon, Daniel Buteyn allowed two runs on three hits in 1.1 innings, striking out four in the loss. Charlie Holm hit a solo homer in the loss for the Belugas.
