Tri-Valley 14, Elk Point-Jefferson 8

ABERDEEN — An 11-run sixth inning lifted Tr-Valley past Elk Point-Jefferson during Thursday’s quarterfinal action. The Mustangs will face Dakota Valley at 4 p.m. Friday in the state semifinals.

Kadence Davey powered the Mustangs' comeback, driving in five runs on three hits, including a walk and a home run. Ava Christensen tallied three hits, a double and two home runs, totaling four RBIs. Emery Pearson and Keagan Kuchta each tallied one hit and two RBIs, with Pearson blasting a two-run homer, while Hailey Sorenson and Mattie Huwe each added two hits in the win. Emry Jones worked the bulk of the innings on the mound, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk in four innings, fanning three batters.

For EPJ, Regan Rasmussen allowed 14 runs on 16 hits and three walks in six innings, striking out three. Cera Schmitz drove in seven runs in the loss on a 4-for-4 day at the plate, including two doubles and two home runs. Molly Geary added three hits while Laney Trometer collected two hits in the loss. Elk Point-Jefferson faces Madison in the consolation semifinals Friday at noon.


Dakota Valley 8, Madison 1

ABERDEEN — Dakota Valley totaled 13 hits as the Panthers earned a spot in the Class A state softball semifinals Thursday. DV will play Tri-Valley at 4 p.m. Friday in the semis.

Emma Barnett led the Panthers with three hits, including two doubles, adding two RBIs, Mia Riibe tallied two hits, a walk, and two RBIs Addie Dickson drove in two runs on two hits while Annie Bourne and Paige Moffatt each collected two hits and an RBI in the win. Barnett also took the victory on the mound allowing one run on three hits and two walks in seven innings, striking out five batters.

For Madison, Kelcie Dudley allowed eight runs on 12 hits and five walks in 4.2 innings to take the loss. Mara Klingbile, Addison Voss and Dudley each tallied hits in the loss. Madison will take on Elk Point-Jefferson at noon Friday in the consolation semifinals.


West Central 4, Vermillion 1

ABERDEEN — Elisabeth Miller struck out 13 batters as top-seeded West Central defeated Vermillion to open the Class A state softball tournament. West Central will play Dell Rapids Friday at 2 p.m. in the state semifinals.

Miller struck out 13 batters in a complete game outing, allowing one unearned run on one hit and two walks. Maddy Kunzweiler drove in a run on two hits, including a triple, Ayla Kramer added one hit and two RBIs while Briauna Hoff tallied three hits, two doubles, in the win as well.

For Vermillion, Mya Halverson took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks in six innings pitched, striking out six. Madigan Wallin drove in the only run of the game on the only hit for the Tanagers. Vermillion will face Sioux Valley Friday at 10 a.m. in the consolation semifinals.


Dell Rapids 6, Sioux Valley 2

ABERDEEN — Katie Kvigne struck out 12 batters as Dell Rapids took down No. 8 Sioux Valley during Thursday’s state quarterfinal action. Dell Rapids will face West Central Friday at 2 p.m. in the state semifinals.

Kvigne allowed just two runs on two hits and a walk in seven innings, striking out 12 batters in the win. Kvigne also drove in two runs on a walk and a double as well. Lexi Scherff and Kayleigh Gillette each tallied two hits, including a double by Scherff and a triple by Gillette, while Emma Lanpher drove in a run in the win.

For SV, McKinley Schwab allowed six runs on seven hits and three walks in six innings, striking out nine batters. Audrey Murano drove in two runs on a double while Amelia Jacobson tallied a hit in the loss for the Cossacks. SV will play Vermillion in the consolation semifinals at 10 a.m. Friday.
