Sioux Falls Washington 5, Rapid City Stevens 2

SIOUX FALLS — A late three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth led Sioux Falls Washington to a 5-2 victory over Rapid City Stevens in the first round of the Class AA state tournament on Thursday.

Despite being out-hit by the Raiders, nine to five, timely hits by Washington’s Rylynn Routh, including a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth, led the Warriors to the victory.

Emma Hensley earned the win for Washington, allowing just one hit in one and two-thirds innings. Madelyn Mescher started the game for the Warriors going five and one-third innings, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out nine.

For Stevens, Lainey Van Zee took the loss, suffering five runs on five hits and two walks in six innings, striking out 12 batters. Van Zee drove in one run on a solo homer while Sayde Hunt and Josie Thompson each collected two hits apiece in the loss.

Sioux Falls Washington will face Harrisburg at 4 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. Rapid City Stevens will face Sioux Falls O’Gorman at noon Friday in the consolation semifinals.


Sioux Falls Lincoln 4, Sioux Falls Roosevelt 3

SIOUX FALLS — Paxton Dekkers' three-RBI game lifted No. 1 Lincoln past Sioux Falls Roosevelt during Class AA state softball action Thursday. The Patriots will face Sioux Falls Jefferson Friday at 2 p.m. in the state semifinals.

Dekkers drove in three runs on two hits, including a two-run homer. Sara Mathison tallied an RBI-double, while Avery Dorman, Kierra Lubovich and Ruby Hennies each tallied hits in the win. Lubovich earned the victory on the mound, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in a complete game, striking out nine.

For Roosevelt, Desiree Hinsch took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk in six innings, striking out six. Vanessa Kiggins drove in a run on a double while Raelyn Sieler tallied two hits in the loss for the Rough Riders. Roosevelt will face Brandon Valley in the consolation semifinals at 10 a.m. Friday.


Sioux Falls Jefferson 3, Brandon Valley 0

SIOUX FALLS — Tya Devericks and Whitney Portner combined to shut out Brandon Valley Thursday, powering Sioux Falls Jefferson to the state semifinals. The Cavaliers will face Sioux Falls Lincoln Friday at 2 p.m.

Devericks shut out the Lynx in five innings pitched, giving up just two hits and a walk while striking out three. Portner allowed two hits and two walks over the final two innings as well. Peyten Krull powered the Cavs' offense with two RBIs on a double and a home run, while Macy Bryant, Portner and Bella Sorum each collected hits in the win.

BV’s Macy Lembcke allowed three runs on five hits and a walk in six innings pitched, striking out eight. Peyton Amdahl, Danielle Schoby, Aniston Murray and Briley Laber each tallied hits in the loss. The Lynx will face Sioux Falls Roosevelt at 10 a.m. Friday in the consolation semifinals.


Harrisburg 15, O’Gorman 0 (3 innings)

SIOUX FALLS — Harrisburg pounded out 14 hits as the Tigers earned a mercy-rule victory over O’Gorman during Thursday’s quarterfinal action. The Tigers will face Sioux Falls Washington Friday at 4 p.m. in the state semifinals.

Anna Simunek and Jayci Olson powered the Tiger offense with three hits apiece, including a homer by Olson, driving in a combined five runs in the win. Peyton LaFramboise tallied two hits, a walk, a homer and three RBIs. Madelyn Ducheneaux added a homer and a walk, driving in two runs, while Brooklyn Haffey and Kennedy Kokenge each drove in runs on one hit in the win. Ducheneaux earned the victory on the mound, allowing one walk in three shutout innings, striking out five batters in just 32 pitches.

For O’Gorman, Kenzie Koenig allowed 15 runs on 14 hits and three walks in 2.2 innings. The Knights will face Rapid City Stevens at noon Friday in the consolation semifinals.
