March 8 Class AA Boys Basketball Roundup - Spearfish outlasts Tea Area in overtime, advances to state tourney

Spearfish 54, Tea Area 48 (OT)

SPEARFISH — Spearfish outlasted Tea Area in an overtime SoDak 16 boys basketball game on Saturday. Spearfish will play in the Class AA boys basketball tournament on March 20-22 in Rapid City.

Spearfish’s Dylon Doren recorded 19 points, six rebounds and three 3-pointers. Bennett Kortan added 16 points and six rebounds. Kade Vavruska had nine points and eight rebounds. Kamren Davis finished with eight points and five rebounds.

For Tea Area, Gavin Shawd recorded 19 points and Grifin Wiebenga totaled 17 points. Marshall Smythe logged five points, seven rebounds and six assists. 


Mitchell 61, Rapid City Central 49 

MITCHELL — Colton Smith and Markus Talley combined for 43 points in Class AA No. 4 Mitchell’s SoDak 16 victory over Rapid City Central Saturday.

Smith led the Kernels tallying 26 points, 14 rebounds and three assists while Talley added 17 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Gavin Hinker collected eight points and four rebounds while Owen Raml had seven points in the win.

RCC’s Gilbert White Jr. had 21 points, Julius Duran tallied 11 points and three rebounds, Junior Allen recorded nine points while Preston Yellow had eight points in the loss.


Brandon Valley 53, Pierre 42

BRANDON — Brandon Valley held off Pierre for a Class AA SoDak 16 boys basketball win on Saturday. 

Brandon Valley’s Landon Dulaney finished with 19 points and Aiden Zerr added 11 points. Grant Hennen and Lincoln McInerney had eight points apiece.

Pierre’s Luke Olson and Eladio Simental scored 11 points apiece. Dawson Getz had nine points and Sawyer Sonnenschein scored six points.
