March 8 Boys Basketball Roundup - Freeman outlasts Parkston in high-scoring Region 4B contest, advances to SoDak 16

Freeman 86, Parkston 76

PARKSTON — Freeman hit 12 first-half threes to beat Parkston during Saturday’s SoDak 16 qualifying game. Freeman will play in the SoDak 16 on March 11. 

David Walter powered the Flyers with 22 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, Tate Sorensen tallied 20 points and six rebounds while Tayden Kerrigan dished out three assists in the win.

Parkston’s Brycen Bruening had a game-high 26 points and four assists, James Deckert added 24 points and five rebounds, while Mason Jervik netted nine points and three steals in the loss.


Howard 49, Bridgewater-Emery 48 

MITCHELL — Three players scored in double figures as Howard clipped Bridgewater-Emery in a Region 3B boys basketball action on Saturday. The Tigers will play in the SoDak 16 on March 11.

Howard’s Luke Koepsell finished with 16 points, while Lucas Feldhaus added 11 points and hit three 3-pointers. Carson Hinker scored 10 points, while Austin Severson had six points. Kolt Becker scored five points.

For BE, Ben Weber scored 16 points and Jaxon Koch added 14 points. Holden Wollmann, Macklen Weber and Jason Zeeb scored five points apiece.


Dell Rapids St. Mary 69, Colman-Egan 59

DELL RAPIDS — Three players reached double figures as Dell Rapids St. Mary pulled away in the second half for a Region 3B win over Colman-Egan Saturday. 

Trevon Beckman powered the Cardinals with 26 points. Maverick LeBrun added 22 points and Trimmier Hanson chipped in with 12 points. 

Jase Mousel led Colman-Egan with 21 points and Jackson Zwart added 11 points. Caden Zwart and Jack Mousel each had 10 points for the Hawks. 


Winner 72, Mahpiya Luta 55

WINNER — A huge night from Carter Craven helped Winner hold off Maypiya Luta in a SoDak 16 qualifying game Saturday. 

Craven finished with 37 points and nine rebounds. Shawn Hammerbeck had 13 points, six rebounds and three assists. 

Okte Spotted Eagle led Mahpiya Luta with 13 points while Tokeya Big Crow and Braylen Little each had six points.


Castlewood 47, De Smet 45 (OT) 

MADISON — Castlewood clipped De Smet in an overtime Region 2B boys basketball action on Saturday. Castlewood will play in the SoDak 16 on March 11. 

Castlewood’s Jamison Keszler recorded 21 points, while Bryon Laue added 18 points, 16 rebounds and five blocked shots. Kamden Keszler had six points, while Brody Bass had six rebounds.

For De Smet, Grant Wilkinson finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Slayten Wilkinson had 12 points and five rebounds. Noah Luethmers had 10 points and five rebounds. Carter Wilkinson finished with five points and eight rebounds.


Wessington Springs 61, Wolsey-Wessington 37

MADISON — Colby Flowers netted a double-double in Class B No. 4 Wessington Springs Region 2B victory over Wolsey-Wessington Saturday. Wessington Springs will play in the SoDak 16 on March 11.

Flowers tallied 23 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Ryder Michalek had 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, Karter Mebius totaled 12 points and two steals while Wesley Molnar added five points, four rebounds and four assists in the win.

WW’s Moshe Richmond tallied a team-high 14 points, six rebounds and four steals, Peyton Rainford collected eight points, Lars Tvedt tallied seven points while Colin Hughes had six points in the loss.


St. Francis 58, Pine Ridge 57

PINE RIDGE — St. Francis edged Pine Ridge in Region 7A boys basketball action on Saturday. St. Francis will play in the SoDak 16 on March 11. 

St. Francis’ Kenyon McCloskey scored 23 points. Ty Valandra-Fast Horse and Ethan Spotted Tail scored eighth points apiece. John Gunhammer scored seven points and Mackenzie Wike added six points.

Pine Ridge’s Marvin Richard III tossed in a game-high 28 points. Anthony Steele finished with 11 points and Michael Callie scored 10 points. Kenny Pulliam had six points. 


Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 58, Platte-Geddes 55

EAGLE BUTTE — Cheyenne-Eagle Butte outlasted Platte-Geddes in Region 6A boys basketball action. The Braves will play in the SoDak 16 on March 11. 

CEB’s Easton Lawrence finished with 16 points and Jayden Marshall added 12 points. Austin Johnson finished with 10 points and Dayson Kennedy scored seven points. 

For Platte-Geddes, Isaac Leaders had 17 points and Braxton Breukelman scored 14 points. Hayden Sprik scored 11 points and Jye Bailey had six points. Max Miller scored five points. 


Lyman 72, Lower Brule 59

MITCHELL — Three players scored in double figures as Lyman pulled away from Lower Brule in Region 5B boys basketball action on Saturday. Lyman will play in the SoDak 16 on March 11. 

Lyman’s Dawsen Volmer finished with 22 points, while MJ Diehm and Aksel Ehlers scored 16 points apiece. Cole Kieffer scored eight points and Canyon Garnos had five points.

For Lower Brule, Payton Palmier posted 21 points and Lane Gray added 11 points. Ben Middletent scored eight points and Kristian Antelope scored seven points. Nate Middletent had five points. 


Gregory 47, Corsica-Stickney 12

MITCHELL — Gregory coasted past Corsica-Stickney in Region 5B boys basketball action on Saturday. Gregory will play in the SoDak 16 on March 11. 

Gregory’s Colt Keiser recorded 18 points and Lincoln Juracek scored 10 points. Rane Kenzy had six points and Noah Bearshield scored five points.

For Corsica-Stickney, Jarrett Olawsky scored seven points. 


West Central 52, Madison 44

HARTFORD — A big game from Connor Mebius helped West Central pick up a win over Madison in Region 3A basketball action Saturday. 

Mebius powered West Central with 28 points, four rebounds and four steals. Kolte Garry added seven points and seven rebounds while Hayden Heier finished with six points and five rebounds. 

Ben Brooks paced Madison with 16 points and Nolan Nielsen finished with seven points. 


Viborg-Hurley 71, Centerville 37

VIBORG — Nick Hanson and Owen Niederbaumer combined for 39 points as Viborg-Hurley picked up a Region 4B win over Centerville Saturday. 

Hanson powered Viborg-Hurely with 23 points and nine rebounds. Niederbaumer added 16 points, five rebounds and three steals. Rafe Goettertz and Brayden Morrison each scored nine points. 

Aiden Bobzin led Centerville with 12 points and four steals. Alec Austin (nine points) and Ethan Bobzin (seven points) combined to score 16 points.


Waverly-South Shore 62, Leola/Frederick Area 57

FREDERICK — Waverly-South Shore outlasted Leola/Frederick Area in Region 1B boys basketball action on Saturday. The Coyotes will play in the SoDak 16 on March 11. 

WSS’s Zach Ries posted 21 points and Sam Applehof finished with 20 points. Spencer Ries added 11 points, while Colton Kranz scored six points. 

Leola/Frederick Area’s Noah Kippley recorded 14 points and Ethan Petrich finished with 12 points. Gavin Nickelson had 10 points, while Westyn Thorpe posted seven points. Milo Sumption had six points and Jace Thorpe scored five points.


Hanson 77, Mount Vernon-Plankinton 44

ALEXANDRIA — Three players reached double figures as Hanson secured a spot in the Class A SoDak 16 Saturday.

AJ Wilber led with 19 points and eight rebounds, Ben Wilber tallied 16 points and nine rebounds, Sutton DeWald had 15 points while Tye Hernandez netted nine points for the Beavers,

MVP’s Tyce Feistner totaled 10 points, Mason Karst had nine points, Brady Fox had eight points while Isaiah Olson collected seven points in the loss.

 

Clark-Willow Lake 65, Deuel 43

CLARK — Four players reached double figures in Clark-Willow Lake’s victory over Deuel in Region 2A action Saturday. CWL will play St. Francis in the SoDak 16 on March 11.

Chris Bevers led the Cyclones with 18 points, four rebounds and three steals, Bo Begeman added 15 points and 11 rebounds, Sully Felberg recorded 14 points and seven rebounds while Emmerson Larson collected 10 points in the win.

Deuel’s Jaxon Peterreins tallied 10 points, Caleb Ronne had eight points, Troy Jenson totaled seven points and four boards while Gabe Sather had six points and seven rebounds in the loss.


Hamlin 77, Sioux Valley 46 

HAYTI — Two Hamlin players scored 20 or more points in a Region 2A boys basketball win on Saturday. Hamlin will play in the SoDak 16 on March 11. 

Hamlin’s Jackson Wadsworth logged 22 points and hit six 3-pointers. Easton Neuendorf added 21 points. Evan Stormo scored 13 points and Boden Stevenson added nine points. Dawson Noem and Zac VanMeeteren scored six points apiece.

For Sioux Valley, Maverick Nelson scored 17 points and Brady Hiltunen had 12 points. Brock Christopherson added nine points.
