Pine Ridge’s Marvin Richard III, Wagner’s Ashlyn Koupal continue to move up South Dakota’s all-time scoring lists

Pine Ridge’s Marvin Richard III and Wagner’s Ashlyn Koupal are continuing their ascensions up South Dakota’s all-time boys and girls basketball scoring lists. 

Coming off a 43-point performance against Freeman on Jan. 3, Richard III currently has 2,212 career points. The 6-foot-1 guard is currently tied for 19th on South Dakota’s all-time scoring list, with Hamlin’s Steve Brown. 

Richard III is averaging 26.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists and four steals per game. He’s scored 30 or more points in three games this season, including his 43-point game vs. Freeman. Against the Flyers, Richard III finished 16-of-31 from the field and 6-of-17 at the 3-point line. Richard III will play college basketball at Division I South Dakota next season.

Koupal currently has 2,119 career points, and sits No. 25 on South Dakota’s all-time scoring list. A 6-foot-3 guard/forward, Koupal is coming off a 31-point and 18-rebound performance against Ethan on Jan. 6. Koupal also erupted for 38 points, 17 rebounds, nine assists and seven blocked shots against Avon on Jan. 3. Koupal also totaled 42 points, 14 rebounds, seven blocked shots, five steals and four assists against Winner on Dec. 31, 2025. 

Koupal is averaging 30 points and 15.5 rebounds per game. She will play college basketball next season at Division I Nebraska.
