Danny Frisby-Griffin, Chairman of the Department of South VFW Baseball, announced the winner of the seventh annual VFW Youth Baseball Community of the Year Award.

VFW Baseball awarded the $1,000 prize to the Salem Baseball Association and the City of Salem. This recognition honors their exceptional efforts in hosting two tournaments held on consecutive weekends this summer.

“Congratulations go out to the community of Salem and their ballpark association. Salem Baseball Association collaborated with their community, so baseball our youth players across SD had the opportunity to play in a well-run tournament,” the SD VFW Baseball stated in a press release.

The VFW also recognized two organizations as Friend of SD VFW Baseball for their outstanding work and positive relationship with SD VFW Baseball.

The Madison Baseball Association received a $500 award. The Madison Baseball Association hosted the 8U state tournament this year.

“They worked with their community and put together a very well-run 8U tournament with 30 teams. The 30 teams used pool play to determine seeding and then started three different 8U state tournaments. We look forward to visiting them again soon,” the SD VFW Baseball stated in a press release.

The Garretson Baseball Association also received a $500 award for hosting the 14U state tournament.

“They have a positive and developmental approach; their attitude was contagious and was a lot of fun to watch the teams enjoy their hospitality,” the SD VFW Baseball stated in a press release.
