Sioux Falls Christian teams lead Class A state track and field standings after Day 1

SIOUX FALLS — The Sioux Falls Christian track and field teams sit atop the state track and field standings after Day 1. 

The Sioux Falls Christian boys have 36 points, followed by Lennox (25.5) and Custer (10). The Sioux Falls Christian girls have 34 points, ahead of conference foe Lennox (26) and Custer (18). 

The Sioux Falls Christian boys were boosted 15 points from shot put champion Marcus Furth (60-8.5) and Maddux Munson (53-5.5). 

The Charger boys quartet of Brice Wassenaar, Sawyer Pettengill, Wesley Lyon and Levi Vander Leest also won the 3,200-meter relay (8:06.47). The SFC boys quartet of Tate Connell, Tate Gadbois, Brant Wassenaar and Brice Wassenaar placed second in the sprint medley relay (3:35.26). 

Hudson VanDonge placed third in high jump (6-2), earning three more points for the Chargers. 

The Sioux Falls Christian girls received a first-place finish from javelin thrower Sydney Schaap (121-5). Sioux Falls Christian’s Bailey VanderGriend, Bryn Baker, Elia Peterson and Natalie Smith won the 3,200-meter relay (9:29.50). 

In the pole vault, Sioux Falls Christian’s Alexis McEntee (11-1) and Victoria Gassen (10-1) placed fourth and sixth, respectively. 

Sioux Falls Christian’s Autumn Aukes, Emory Lems, Natalie Smith and Sadie Pettengill placed third in the sprint medley relay (4:11.31).
