South Dakota teams place top-six at National Junior High Finals Rodeo

PERRY, Georgia — South Dakota was well represented at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo on June 18-24.

In the boys standings, South Dakota placed fifth with 2,015 points and placed sixth in the girls standings with 1,105 points. In the overall team standings, South Dakota placed sixth with 3,120 points. 

New Underwood’s Casper Hammerstrom and Belle Fourche’s Slone Weishaar won the team roping average (29.47). 

Individually, Taos Weborg (St. Charles) and Arina Dee Haugen (Sturgis) finished top-10 in the all-around standings. 

Weborg finished fourth in the all-around cowboy standings with 650 points. Weborg finished second in the bareback riding average with 205.5 points, finishing just behind Prescott, Arizona’s Braylon Johnson (209). Weborg finished ninth in the saddle bronc riding average (161). 

Haugen finished seventh in the all-around cowgirl standings with 400 points. Haugen placed 18th in the pole bending average (70.639). Haugen finished 25th in the barrel racing average (32.436). 

Clearfield’s Reven Moss finished fifth in the boys goat tying average (32.7). 

Midland’s Randen Wishard took eighth in the saddle bronc riding average (166). 

Kadoka’s Bradi Bachand placed eighth in the barrel racing average (47.602).
