South Dakotans Simeon Birnbaum, Ali Bainbridge earn all-conference honors at Big Ten cross-country championships

SAVOY, Ill. — Simeon Birnbaum and Ali Bainbridge represented South Dakota well at the Big Ten cross-country championships on Nov. 1. 

Birnbaum, a Rapid City Stevens graduate, finished fourth in the 8,000-meter run with a time of 22 minutes and :57.2 seconds. He was Oregon’s best finisher as the Ducks had three runners in the top-10 finishers. Oregon finished third as a team, behind Wisconsin (46) and Washington (58). 

Bainbridge, a Sioux Falls Lincoln graduate, placed 19th in the 6,000-meter run with a time of 19:46.2. Bainbridge is a sophomore at the University of Nebraska. The Huskers finished 11th as a team with 283 points. The Oregon women won the team title with 33 points. 

Birnbaum and Bainbridge both earned all-conference honors for their finishes. All-conference accolades are determined by individual finish with places 1st-through-10th collecting first-team honors and places 11-through-20th named to the second team.
