SIOUX FALLS — Brandon Valley, Canton and Pierre girls captured state championships at Friday’s state wrestling tournament at the Denny Sanford Premier Center. 

For Brandon Valley, it racked up a state-record 252 points and finished well ahead of second-place Rapid City Stevens (162). It was Brandon Valley’s second straight Class A state championship. 

Canton won its fifth straight Class B state championship and its sixth in the last seven seasons. Canton finished ahead of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes (141) and Winner Area (137). 

For Pierre, it won the first-ever South Dakota girls wrestling team championship. The Governors finished with 146 points, while Canton placed second with 129 points.

Class B

In the 152-pound match, Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes’ Grayson Hanson outlasted Parkston’s Porter Neugebauer by a 5-2 decision. 

In the 160-pound match, Redfield’s Mason Fey recorded a 1-0 over Howard’s John Callies to complete a 47-4 season. 

In the 170-pound match, Philip Area’s Burk Blasius captured his second consecutive state championship. One year after winning the 160-pound title, Blasius defeated Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington’s Keegan Haider by a 3-1 decision this season. 

In the 182-pound match, Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon’s Isaac Crownover edged Winner Area’s Jack Kruger, 3-2.

In the 195-pound match, Canton’s Tanner Meyers claimed a 3-0 decision over Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes’ Levi Nightingale for the championship. 

In the 220-pound match, Canton’s Marshall Baldwin picked up a 13-3 major decision win over Parker’s Levi Wieman for the championship. 

In the 285-pound match, Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington’s Quinten Christensen pinned Redfield’s Grady Fey (2:41) to win his second straight heavyweight state championship. 

In the 106-pound match, Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes’ Gavin Braun earned a 2-1 ultimate tie-breaker win over Wagner’s Karstyn Lhotak.

In the 113-pound match, Winner Area’s Maxton Brozik earned a 5-0 decision over McCook Central/Montrose’s Trystan Traupel in the finals. 

In the 120-pound match, Stanley County’s Chase Hanson earned a 6-3 decision over Miller/Highmore-Harrold’s Kellan Hurd for the championship. 

In the 126-pound match, Canton’s Ayson Rice picked up a 12-3 major decision over Winner Area’s Kaleb Osborn. 

In the 132-pound match, Burke/Gregory’s Owen Hansen capped off a 46-1 season with a 12-5 win over Canton’s Kale Ask. 

In the 138-pound match, Webster Area’s Cael Larson picked up a 7-0 decision over Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes’ Chase Varilek in the finals. 

In the 145-pound match, Winner Area’s Kaden Keiser won by a 15-6 major decision over McCook Central/Montrose’s Jackson Remmers to earn his fourth straight state title. 


Class A

In the 220-pound match, Brookings’ Luke Rasmussen recorded a 10-0 major decision win over Harrisburg’s Ayden Viox. Rasmussen, who captured last year’s 195-pound championship, finished this season with a 35-0 record. 

In the 285-pound match, Brandon Valley’s Navarro Schunke buttoned up a dominating 48-0 season, pinning Mitchell’s Beau Foote at the three-minute mark. 

In the 106-pound match, Brandon Valley’s Trevon Oehme nipped Rapid City Stevens’ Corbin Zent by a 3-2 decision to conclude a 34-4 season. 

In the 113-pound match, Watertown’s Sloan Johannsen outlasted Vermillion’s Hayden Schroeder (3-2) to complete a perfect 47-0 season. 

In the 120-pound match, Tea Area’s Maddix Slykhuis picked up a 2-0 decision over Rapid City Stevens’ Jack Schoenhard for the championship. 

In the 126-pound match, Rapid City Stevens’ Logan Graf recorded a 3-0 decision over Brandon Valley’s Jordon Oehme in the finals. 

In the 132-pound match, Huron’s Moses Gross captured a 4-2 sudden victory win over Brandon Valley’s Trason Oehme. 

In the 138-pound match, Brandon Valley’s Alex Mentzer capped off a 48-0 season with a 6-1 decision over Pierre’s Blake Judson in the finals. 

In the 145-pound match, Mitchell’s Jagger Tyler pinned Spearfish’s Oakley Blakeman (5:06) in the finals. 

In the 152-pound match, Rapid City Stevens’ Corter Doney defeated Pierre’s Deegan Houska by a 7-5 decision. 

In the 160-pound match, Rapid City Stevens’ Riley Benson edged Rapid City Central’s Landin Winter, 3-1. 

In the 170-pound match, Sturgis’ Reese Jacobs pinned Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Tae Ellenbecker (3:12) in the finals. 

In the 182-pound match, Harrisburg’s Ryan Hirschkorn secured the state championship with a 3-1 decision over Mitchell’s Joe VanOverschelde. 

In the 195-pound match, Brandon Valley’s Damion Schunke edged Chamberlain’s Noah Hutmacher (4-1) in the finals. 


Girls

In the 120-pound match, Harrisburg’s Regina Stoeser capped off a 26-3 season with a pin (2:52) over Brandon Valley’s Mary Katherine. 

In the 126-pound match, Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon’s Peyton Hellmann topped Yankton’s Nevaeh Leonard by a 5-1 decision. 

In the 132-pound match, Spearfish’s Taylor Graveman pinned Pierre’s Gianna Stangeland (0:53) to conclude a 38-0 campaign. 

In the 142-pound match, Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes’ Kiana Shevling-Major recorded a 16-5 major decision win over Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Ali Bissell. 

In the 154-pound match, Lead-Deadwood’s Trinity Zopp pinned Webster Area’s Annie Witt (1:12) in the finals. 

In the 170-pound match, Canton’s Carlee Laubach pinned Viborg-Hurley’s Gia Miller (1:49) in the finals. 

In the 190-pound match, Canton’s Zoe Adam pinned Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Betsy Martinez (5:16) in the championship match. 

In the 285-pound match, Pierre’s Ciara McFarling pinned Canton’s Kiara King (3:07) in the finals. 

In the 106 pound match, Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes’ Akane Metcalfe picked up a 6-3 decision over Spearfish’s Maraia Kruske in the finals. 

In the 113-pound match, Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon’s Britney Rueb edged Lemmon/McIntosh’s Quinn Butler (4-3) in the finals.
