RAPID CITY — Rapid City Stevens’ Kadance Holso clipped Spearfish’s Peyton VanDeest in a photo finish at Friday’s Rapid City Area Schools Invitational. 

Holso covered the 5,000-meter distance at Hart Ranch Resort in 18 minutes and :56 seconds, edging VanDeest (18:56.06) for the win. Sturgis’ Evelyn Hurley (19:16.47), Spearfish’s Kori Keil (19:19.53) and Laramie, Wyoming’s Keiran Giraldo (19:20.70) rounded out the top-five girls runners.

Sheridan, Wyoming’s Eli Balkenbush won the boys race in 15:49.78), finishing ahead of Hill City’s Tate Grabow (16:07.83). Sheridan, Wyoming’s Aadan Luna (16:13.67) and Wyatt Veal (16:31.4) finished third and fourth, respectively. Belle Fourche’s Lennon Clarkson (16:36.67) placed fifth.

The Rapid City Stevens girls won the team title with 25 points, followed by Spearfish (38) and Laramie, Wyoming (42). The Sheridan, Wyoming, boys won the team title, followed by Stevens (91) and Thunder Basin, Wyoming (116).
