Thursday's State B Volleyball Roundup: Platte-Geddes, Colman-Egan pick up five-set victories

Platte-Geddes 3, Burke 2

RAPID CITY -- No. 1 seed Platte-Geddes outlasted familiar foe Burke in the opening round of the Class B state tournament on Thursday at The Monument. The set scores were 25-15, 17-25, 25-23, 21-25 and 16-14.

It was Platte-Geddes’ third win this season over the Cougars. 

Platte-Geddes’ Regan Hoffman finished with 15 kills, 14 digs and two aces. Karly VanDerWerff added 12 kills, 13 digs and one block. Addyson Boltjes logged four kills, while Avery DeVries had 43 assists. Carly Van Zee added seven aces and 26 digs. 

For Burke, Adisyn Indahl had 17 kills, 30 digs and four aces. Kailee Frank logged 14 kills, 12 digs and four aces. Ava Sargent posted 17 assists and six digs. Elly Witt and Elle Johnson had 18 and 12 digs, respectively. 

Platte-Geddes plays Colman-Egan in championship semifinals. Burke plays Chester Area in the consolation semifinals.

Colman-Egan 3, Chester Area 2

RAPID CITY -- Colman-Egan rallied from a 2-0 deficit and edged Chester Area in a five-set match at the Class B state tournament on Thursday at The Monument. The set scores were 23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 26-24 and 15-12.

Colman-Egan’s Mackenzie Hemmer recorded 20 kills and 18 digs. Hailey Larson added 13 kills and 18 digs. Faith Taggart finished with six kills and five digs. Daniela Lee recorded 25 digs, nine kills and four aces. Ava Mousel added 14 assists and 17 digs. Berkley Groos added 11 digs. 

Chester Area’s Jayda Kenyon posted 18 kills and three digs. Brecklyn Ewoldt had 18 kills and seven digs. Addison Bates finished with 15 kills, while Lily VanHal had 43 assists, 12 digs and 12 kills. Carly Becker posted 22 assists and 14 digs. Emery Larson and Kaylor Geraets had 27 and 23 digs, respectively. Jacy Wolf added 16 digs.

Warner 3, Aberdeen Christian 0

RAPID CITY -- Warner swept Aberdeen Christian and advanced to the Class B semifinals on Thursday in state tourney action. The set scores were 25-15, 25-16 and 25-18.

Warner’s Jennifer Aman had 17 kills and Kyra Marcuson posted 16 kills and 10 digs. Ava Nilsson logged 38 assists and six digs. Courtney Bjorgaard added 18 digs and three aces. Kiah Koch finished with 11 digs and three aces. Kamryn Anderson finished with six kills and four digs.

Aberdeen Christian’s Hanna Miller finished with seven kills and 13 digs. Kaylee Block recorded 14 assists and seven digs. Joy Rohrbach posted 15 digs, while Mary Fites finished with nine digs and four kills.

Faulkton Area 3, Arlington 1

RAPID CITY -- Faulkton Area claimed a four-set win over Arlington during Thursday’s Class B opening round. The set scores were 25-22, 28-26, 22-25 and 25-17.

Isabel Aesoph led the Trojans with 23 kills and 14 digs. Shayna Heitmann posted 19 kills and four digs. Carley Cotton finished with 22 digs, while Camryn Deiter added 23 assists and nine digs. Sydney Campbell recorded 13 digs. Gabby Kast dished out 23 assists and two solo blocks.

Arlington’s Hadley Carlson logged 26 kills and 31 digs. Erin Haufschild finished with seven kills and seven digs. Grace Parry handed out 40 assists and had 12 digs. Natalie Burns logged 16 digs.
