HARTFORD — The Sioux Falls Christian track teams ran away with the team titles at Thursday’s Dak-XII track and field meet.

The Charger girls racked up 180 points, well ahead of Lennox (116) and Elk Point-Jefferson (101). Tea Area (78) and Dakota Valley (75) rounded out the top-five girls teams. 

The Charger boys put up 148.5 points, ahead of West Central (115) and Tea Area (98). Lennox (93.5) and Madison (71) rounded out the top-five boys teams. 

Distance events and relays proved to be the winning formula for the Sioux Falls Christian girls. Anna Vyn won the 400-meter dash (:58.93), Corrine Braun won the 800-meter run with the second fastest Class A time this season (2:13.25), Ellie Maddox won the 1,600-meter run (5:01.54) with the fastest Class A time this season and Sadie Pettengill won the 3200-meter run (11:14.09). 

The Chargers won the 400-meter relay (:49.12), the 800-meter relay (1:45.20), the 1,600-meter relay (4:01.97), the 3,200-meter relay (9:38.22) and the sprint medley relay (4:16.15). Hallie Braun also won the 300-meter hurdles for Sioux Falls Christian (:46.15) and Rylee Punt cleared 12-3.5 to win the pole vault. 

Lennox seventh-grader Bergan Musser won the 100-meter dash (:12.59), 200-meter dash (:25.62), the long jump (17-00.25) and ran a leg on the second place 400-meter relay team (:50.48).

Elk Point-Jefferson dominated the throws getting wins from Molli Harkin in the shot put (35-7), Grace Peed in the discus (119-1) and Bentlee Kollbaum in the javelin (123-02).

Tea Area finished second in the 1,600-meter relay (4:04.93) and third in the 3,200-meter relay (9:58.86). 

In boys action, Sioux Falls Christian picked up wins from Bennett Wassenaar in the 800-meter run (1:59.30). Wassenaar, along with Jackson Prins, Levi Vander Leest and Alex Oberloh won the 3,200-meter relay (8:20.02). Freshman Brant Wassenaar anchored the Chargers to a win in the sprint medley relay (3:42.46). The Chargers dominated the throws with Paul Hoekman winning the shot put (59-7) and the discus (151-11). Charger senior Amani Adams won the javelin (150-9 with Hoekman finishing second (147-1). 

West Central’s Jude Jarding won the 200-meter dash (:22.80) and 400-meter dash (:49.65). Layton Johnson won the 100-meter dash (:11.45). Liam Schmeichel won the 110-meter hurdles (:14.98), finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (:42.94) and finished second in the high jump (6-3). Schmeichel and Johnson both ran on the winning 800-meter relay team (1:32.03). Jarding also anchored the winning 1,600-meter relay team (3:29.72). 

Lennox’s Tate Gerdes equaled the top Class A mark in the high jump (6-6) and won the triple jump (40-4). 

Dakota Valley’s Joe Cross won the 1600-meter run (4:25.25) with teammate Jack Brown finishing second (4:28.56). Cross also won the 3,200-meter run (9:38.70).

Madison’s Shane Veenhof won the 300-meter hurdles (:41.54) and finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.79).

The Dell Rapids foursome of Mason Stubbe, Cole Ruesink, Nick Snyder and Jack Henry won the 400-meter relay (:43.55).
