Wessington Springs boys, Chester girls win Region 2B golf titles

DELL RAPIDS — Wessington Springs boys and Chester girls won team titles at Monday’s Region 2B golf tournament.

The Wessington Springs boys shot a 235, finishing ahead of second-place De Smet (245). The Spartans and Bulldogs qualified all their golfers to the state meet on June 3-4 in Brookings.

The Chester girls shot a 274, finishing ahead of second-place Estelline/Hendricks (288). Chester and Estelline/Hendricks qualified all their golfers for the state meet.

Individually, Wessington Springs’ Blake Larson carded a 2-over 73 to earn the boys individual title. He shot a 35 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine. Deubrook Area’s Gavin Landmark (75) and De Smet’s Max Kees (78) finished second and third, respectively. Dell Rapids St. Mary’s Trevon Beckman, Wessington Springs’ Brock Krueger, Colman-Egan’s Taylor Kriech and De Smet’s Danny Sudenga all tied for fourth place with 79s.

Estelline/Hendricks’ Ayla Texley was the girls individual medalist. Texley shot a 44 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine. 

Chester’s Jadyn McDonald (85) and De Smet’s Brooke Jennings (92) finished second and third, respectively. Dell Rapids St. Mary’s Carley Roiger, Deubrook’s Brynlee Hanson and Chester’s Cadence Olivier all tied for fourth place with 94s.
