Who would win a Home Run Derby of South Dakota amateur baseball legends?

We pitched that question on Twitter before MLB’s Home Run Derby on Monday and South Dakotans submitted their favorite amateur sluggers.

Here are five submissions and a short rundown of their home run marks.

  • Kevin Leighton: Leighton hammered a state-record 501 career home runs from 1977-2009 for Madison and Canova. He also has the state record for most home runs in the state tournament (24). The Hall of Famer holds the record for most home runs in a game (six) in 1998 and he smacked 24 homers in 1980. He finished with a lifetime batting average of .480.

  • Curt Fredrickson: Frederickson, a former college women’s basketball coach at Northern State University, hit .410 and crushed 277 career homers from 1973-2001 for Aberdeen. The Hall of Famer is the only player in state history with more than 250 home runs and more than 250 pitching victories.

  • Mick Hoglund: Hoglund belted 329 homers from 1980-2005 for Lake Norden and Dell Rapids PBR. Hoglund, who batted over .400 for his career, was the home run champion at the state tournament twice. He was inducted into the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012.

  • Dennis Simon: Simon smacked 301 home runs from 1983-2005 for Larchwood, Iowa, compiling a .372 career batting average with more than 500 walks and 800 RBI. The Hall of Famer was the state-tournament batting champion in 2001 at the age of 44, posting a .538 average.

  • Billy McMacken: McMacken crushed 240 homers from 1984-2009 for the Brookings Cubs. He averaged .750 at the 1996 state tournament and clubbed 17 homers in state-tournament play. The Hall of Famer also tallied 168 career pitching wins.
