MARTIN —- White River senior Ethan Watson did something Monday very few high school athletes in South Dakota have done.

Watson won the shot at Monday’s Bennett County Invitational, breaking the 60-foot barrier with a throw of 60-6.5. Watson’s heave is currently the best mark in Class B. Watson joins Rapid City Stevens’ Elias Gillen (60-0.25) and Sioux Falls Christian’s Paul Hoekman (61-1) as the only athletes to hit 60-feet in the shot put this season. 

Watson also won the discus with a toss of 153-7

The Bennett County boys had a strong showing led by Rush O’Neill who won the 200-meter dash (23.15), the 110-meter hurdles (:15.67), and the high jump (6-3).

Wall’s Brodi Sundall finished second in the 200-meter dash (:23.51), first in the 400-meter dash (:52.38) and fourth in the 100-meter dash (:11.88)

Philip manned the distance events with Baylor Burns winning the 800-meter run (2:05.40),  Wakely Burns the 1,600-meter run (4:37.80). The Scotties picked up relay titles in the 400-meter (:45.32) and the 800-meter relay (1:34.99). Philip’s Ryker Peterson won the long jump (20-9.75).

Lakota Tech’s Gilbert White won the triple jump (42-9.25) and was second in the high jump (6-3). 

Reagan O’Neill won the 100-meter dash (:12.05), 200-meter dash (:24.99), won the long jump (18-7.25) and teamed with Peyson O’Neill, Alyssa Scott and Harley Harris to win the 400-meter relay (:50.06). Peyson O’Neill won the 100-meter hurdles (:15.52), the 300-meter hurdles (45.74) and cleared a personal best of 5-2 in the high jump. Bennett County eighth-grader Harley Harris finished second in the 110-meter hurdles and won the triple jump (33-4). 

Wall’s Nora Dinger was second in the 100-meter dash (:13.02) and third in the 200-meter run (:27.28) with Paige Kjerstad winning the 400-meter dash (1:01.72). The Eagles won the 3,200-meter relay (10:55.13). Kadence Kussel won the discus (92-0) for the Eagles. 

Philip’s Presley Terkildsen won the 1,600-meter run (6:0.2.72). The Scotties won the 800-meter relay (1:54.45) and the sprint medley relay (4:53.72).

Todd County’s Shelly Larvie won the 3,200-meter run (14:19.84) and Lady Falcon Skye Horse Looking won the shot put (32-4.25).
