All-Nations Football Conference Recap - Todd County tops Lower Brule in marquee matchup

MISSION — Lower Brule, which has won the past three All-Nations Football Conference Class 9B state championships, moved up to Class 9A this season.

In its first Class 9A contest of the 2025 campaign, the Sioux ran up against perennial power Todd County and the Falcons rolled up to a 50-22 victory in the season opener on Aug. 28.   

Todd County’s Chris Ellert passed for 167 yards and three touchdown passes on 11 passing attempts. 

Oniya Whirlwind Soldier hauled in 154 receiving yards and three touchdowns, including an 80-yard score. Bane Yellow Eagle rushed for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns on seven carries.

Todd County intercepted three Lower Brule passes, with Ellert and Whirlwind Soldier intercepting passes. Ellert returned one for a touchdown. 


Multiple Winnebago players shine in shutout victory

WINNEBAGO, Neb. — Multiple Winnebago Chiefs had a hand in their 55-0 shutout win over Cheyenne-Eagle Butte/Tiospaye Topa on Aug. 29. 

Rahkim Free-Bass hauled in a 31-yard touchdown reception from Elijah Whitebear, and Free-Bass returned an interception 71 yards for a touchdown. Adarius Flemister caught a 21-yard touchdown reception from Melvin Hulit, who passed for 59 yards and had a rushing touchdown. Raiden DeCora had a 63-yard touchdown run, while Jared Doxey II added a fumble return for a score. DeCora rushed for 74 yards on three carries. 

The Chiefs forced the Braves into four turnovers, while holding them to just 31 yards on defense. Doxey II and Zzikiya Redhorn had four tackles apiece in the win.
