Winner/Colome 5, Groton 0

MILBANK — Dylan Brandis and Isaiah Olson combined to shutout Groton in the opening round of the state tournament Friday.

Brandis allowed three hits and a walk in five shutout innings of his start while Olson closed the final two innings, surrendering just one hit in 15 pitches. Ryder Halligan drove in a run on two hits and a walk, Zac Olson recorded an RBI on one hit while Gavin Risse and Konner Osborn each had a hit in the win.

For Groton, Nick Morris took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks in seven innings, striking out two. Teylor Diegel had two hits and one walk in the loss for Groton.


Dell Rapids 1, Clark/Willow Lake 0

MILBANK — Tad Tjaden struck out 13 batters as Dell Rapids outlasted Clark/Willow Lake in the opening round of the Class B state tournament Friday.

Tjaden allowed just two hits and a walk in 5.2 shutout innings, striking out 13 batters in the win. Connor Hanson drove in the go-ahead run on a hit in the third inning, while Cole Ruesink and Jackson Peppel each had a hit in the win.

For CWL, Josh Kannegieter took the loss, allowing one run on three hits and seven walks in 6.2 innings, striking out seven in the loss. Cooper Pommer and Watson Grantham each had a hit in the loss.


Parkston 7, Dakota Valley 5

MILBANK — Parkston collected 10 hits as it hung on to beat Dakota Valley in the second game of the state tournament Friday.

James Deckert led the offense with three hits and an RBI, Carter Sommer added two hits, one triple, and an RBI, Taite Klumb drove in two runs on two hits and a walk, while Kash Neugebauer added three RBIs on a double in the win. Sommer took the victory on the mound in five innings of work, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk, striking out nine.

For DV, Grady Ramos took the loss allowing four runs on five hits and four walks in 3.2 innings, striking out five. Sterling Schauff and Vincent Hoffman each had an RBI in the loss for DV.


Scotland/Menno/Freeman/Canistota 8, Milbank 2

MILBANK — Scotland/Menno/Freeman/Canistota pounded out 11 hits as it defeated Milbank to end the opening day of the state tournament.

Tayden Kerrigan had three hits, two doubles, and an RBI, Kory Keppen recorded two hits and an RBI, Riley Tschetter added an RBI on a hit and a walk, Easton Miller netted two RBIs on a single, Bryce Sattler had two hits, while Rocky Ammann drove in a run on a double in the win. Sattler took the win on the mound in three innings of work, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out two.

For Milbank, Aiden Kelly allowed eight runs on 11 hits and a walk in 4.2 innings, striking out three. Mack Koplin tallied two hits while Mason Meister drove in two runs on a double in the loss.
