Aug. 12 Class A Amateur Baseball Roundup - Brookings eliminates Aberdeen, plays Black Hills on Saturday

Brookings Cubs 8, Aberdeen Circus 4 

MITCHELL — The Brookings Cubs doubled up the Aberdeen Circus for a win in the Class A state amateur baseball tournament on Friday at Drake Field.

JaColby Anderson took the win for Brookings, allowing four hits and one run in five innings, while striking out two.

Chase McDaniel tallied three hits and four RBI to lead Brookings, while Noel Burgos had two hits. Anderson, Austin Koenig, and Sam McMacken had one RBI apiece.

Chad Ellingson took the loss for Aberdeen, giving up four earned runs on four hits, while striking out four in four innings.

Brandon Kusler led Aberdeen with three hits in five at bats and two RBI, while Ryan Ellingson and Michael Babcock each added two hits. Ryan Ellingson also had one RBI.


Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels 6, Renner Monarchs 1

MITCHELL — Jack Simonsen drove in three runs to power the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels to a Class A state amateur baseball tournament win over Renner on Friday at Cadwell Park. 

Simonsen finished with two hits, including a solo home run. Zach Dibble, Lucas Wilber and Dylan Ades had two hits apiece. Ades drove in two runs, while Connor Hurley, Trevor Hurley, Jaden Holzer, Damon Baruth and John Wilhelmsen each had hits. Starter Seth Peterson lasted the first seven innings, scattering five hits, allowing one earned run and struck out four batters. 

Renner’s Ben Ihrke, David Borchardt, Jaxon Haase, Ryan Hamilton, Ryan Hander and Chaz Palmer each had hits. Tom Sun took the loss. He allowed eight hits, four earned runs and struck out nine batters in his six-inning start. 


Black Hills A’s 12, Sioux Falls Hops 10 

MITCHELL — The Black Hills A’s outlasted in the Class A state amateur baseball tournament on Friday at Drake Field. 

Adam Deneke powered Black Hills with two hits, three RBI and smacked a three-run homer. Matt Hill, Dawson Penticoff and Seth Johnson each had two hits. Dylan Gellespie, Ryland Smith, Tyson Lindekugel, Cody Schulze, Parks Brigman and Owen Gass had hits. Penticoff earned the win. He surrendered seven hits, three earned runs, struck out two batters and walked two batters in his 5.2-inning start. 

T.J. Miller led Sioux Falls with four hits and three RBI. Charlie Dubanoski and Brandon Ruud had three hits apiece. Ian Strum added two hits. Andrew Erkonen took the loss after allowing nine hits, five earned runs and struck out two batters in his three-inning start.
