Bergan Musser paces Lennox to DWU Open team title with two first-place finishes

MITCHELL — The Lennox boys and girls claimed team titles at Tuesday’s Dakota Wesleyan University Open. 

The Lennox boys totaled 88 points, followed by Vermillion (54) and Ethan/Parkston (46). The Lennox girls finished with 83 points, followed by Colman-Egan (40) and Centerville (37.5). 

On the girls side, Lennox’s Bergan Musser won the 200-meter dash (:25.68), won the long jump (18-1) and placed second in the 60-meter dash (:7.82). Lennox’s Kamille Schmidt won the 3,000-meter run (11:57.01) and Tori Gerdes won the 60-meter hurdles (:9.61). 

On the boys side, Lennox’s Drake Mikkelsen won the 400-meter dash (:51.50), Cloy McVey won the 800-meter run (2:03.62) and Teegan Musser won the high jump (6-2). McVey finished second in the 1,600-meter run (4:35.89). 

Ethan/Parkston’s Mark Deckert won the 60-meter dash (:7.11) and placed third in the 200-meter dash (:23.92). 

Philip’s Baylor Burns won the 1,600-meter run (4:29.43) and placed second in the 800-meter run (2:03.78). 

Freeman’s Lane McCune placed first in the 3,000-meter run (9:55.74) and took third in the 1,600-meter run (4:55.43).
