Platte Killer Tomatoes 14, Aurora Aces 4 (8 innings) 

MITCHELL — The Platte Killer Tomatoes scored six runs in the first inning to pull away from the Aurora Aces for a win at the Class B amateur baseball tournament at Cadwell Park on Thursday.

Brady Nolz was on the mound for Platte, allowing seven hits and four runs in eight innings, while striking out four and walking one.

Platte totaled 14 hits, with Derek Soukup leading the way with four hits in five at bats. Hayden Kuiper and Kris Menning tallied three hits apiece, while Michael Buitenbos added two hits. Soukup and Kuiper had three RBI each, while Menning and Buitenbos added two RBI apiece.  

Cameron May took the loss for the Aurora Aces, allowing four hits and six runs in â…“ of an inning.

Trey Tiefenthaller led the Aurora Aces with two hits in three at bats. Tiefenthaller and John Koenig had two RBI apiece.

 

Alexandria Angels 17, Wessington Springs 2 (6 innings)

MITCHELL -- Alexandria made quick work of Wessington Springs on Thursday at the Class B state amateur baseball tournament at Cadwell Park. 

Jacob Giles earned the win, striking out seven batters, surrendering five hits through four innings pitched. Offensively, Jordan Gau went 3 of 3 and scored three runs, while Pierce Smith added three hits and scored a run. Tyson Gau drove in four runs on two hits. Cole Wenande and Jeff Harris added two hits and two RBI, while Jed Schmidt drove in two runs. 

For Wessington Springs, Curtis Collins, Trevor Kenobbie and Dalton Mogck had two hits apiece. Austin Olson added a hit, while Landon Cleveland drove in a run. Parker DeJean lasted three innings and gave up five earned runs on eight hits. 


Mount Vernon Mustangs 10, Redfield Dairy Queen 0 (7 innings)

MITCHELL — Three Mount Vernon pitchers combined to throw a five-hit shutout over Redfield Dairy Queen on Thursday at the Class B state amateur baseball tournament at Cadwell Park. 

Bradley Dean lasted the first four innings, striking out three batters, allowing three hits, three walks and zero runs to earn the win. Kade Bialas (two strikeouts, two hits) and Blake Moke (two strikeouts, one hits) combined to pitch three scoreless relief innings. 

Offensively, Chase Hetland, Briggs Havlik, Brady Albrecht, Koby Larson and Cameron Deinert finished with two hits apiece. Spencer Neugebauer, Deric Denning and Bradley Dean had added hits. Denning hammered a two-run homer. Hetland logged a team-high three RBI, while Neugebauer drove in two runs. 

For Redfield Dairy Queen, Kole DeSpiegler logged two hits. Bennett Osborn, Brandon Line and Jay Winter each had hits. Kyle Stover took the loss after allowing five hits and five earned runs in one inning. 


Milbank Firechiefs 8, Akron Rebels 4

MITCHELL — Dominique Boerger mowed down 20 batters to power Milbank to a Class B state amateur baseball win over Akron on Thursday at Cadwell Park. 

Boerger scattered 10 hits, allowed four hits, four earned runs and issued zero walks in the complete-game performance. Boerger added a hit on offense. 

Lance Frogner led Milbank with four hits and three RBI. Taylor Boerger added three hits and an RBI, while Travis Lester, Jacob Jackson and Kaden Krause had two hits apiece. Bryan Appl added a hit. The Firechiefs racked up 16 hits. 

Akron’s Preston Fejhar finished with three hits and belted a solo homer over the 340-foot right field fence. Carter Arens, Nick Meisinger, Dan Smith, Tanner Bundy, Sam Mullinix, Dylan Ohl and Brett Stolpe all had hits. Ohl and Stolpe each had hits. Jared Kirkeby lasted the first five innings, allowing 10 hits, one earned run, zero walks and struck out five batters.
