Flandreau Cardinals 6, Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks 2

CANOVA — Flandreau topped the Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks and advanced to the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Thursday.

Flandreau’s Zak Wallner struck out eight batters, allowed seven hits, one earned run and walked three batters in the 6.1-inning start. The Cardinals finished with 10 hits, including two apiece from Keith Cutler, Jacolby Anderson, Austin Koenig and Luke Gassman. Anderson drove in two runs, while Cutler, Koenig and Tim Huber each drove in runs. Bret Severtson struck out three batters, allowed two hits and one walk in 2.2 innings of relief.


Alexandria Angels 9, Dimock/Emery Raptors 1

PARKSTON — Alexandria advances to the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Thursday.

Pierce Smith powered the Angels with three hits and four RBI. Tyson Gau and Jacob Giles had three hits apiece, while Giles drove in a run. Michael Schoettmer added two hits. Jerrod Zens knocked in two runs, while Cole Wenande, Jordan Gau, Peyton Smith and Tucker Kingsbury added hits. 

Ethan Davis struck out nine batters, allowed seven hits, one earned run and walked two batters on 130 pitches.

For Dimock-Emery, Peyton Nash, Jonah Schmidt and Josh Engquist had two hits apiece. Sam Pischke drove in the lone Dimock-Emery run. Phil Johnson took the loss, allowing nine hits, four earned runs and struck out one batter in 2.1 innings. 

 

Parkston Mudcats 8, Parkston Devil Rays 4

PARKSTON — The Parkston Mudcats kept their season alive in the District 5B amateur baseball tournament on Thursday. Parkston will play Dimock-Emery in an elimination game at 6 p.m. Friday.

On Thursday, Brady Nolz struck out 13 batters, allowed six hits, three earned runs and one walk on 125 pitches in the complete-game performance. 

Jeff Harris powered the Mudcats with two hits and four RBI. Ryan McGinnis drove in two runs, while Matt Malloy and Dylan Mogck each drove in runs. 

For the Devil Rays, Dylan Soulek hammered a three-run homer and Landon Sudbeck had two hits. Ty Neugebauer took the loss, allowing seven hits, six earned runs, seven walks and struck out six batters in six innings.


Chamberlain Mallards 11, Plankinton Bankers 6

CHAMBERLAIN — Chamberlain secured a spot in the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Thursday.

Chamberlain’s Mike Schwartz finished with three hits, while Dakota Munger had two hits and drove in four runs. Braydon Kreofsky and Kyle Forester had two hits and drove in two runs apiece. Evan Stiener and Matt Hilson each drove in runs. Stiener earned the win, striking out nine batters, allowing eight hits, five earned runs and four walks in nine innings.

For Plankinton, Hunter Pranger had three hits and drove in two runs. Teegan Schlimgen had two hits and drove in a run. 

 

Milbank Firechiefs 7, Lake Norden Lakers 3

MILBANK — Dom Boerger struck out 19 batters as Milbank picked up a District 1B amateur baseball tournament win on Thursday. 

Boerger allowed three hits, two walks and zero runs in 7.2 innings on 109 pitches. He added two hits and drove in a run at the plate. 

Kellen Hoeke drove in three runs and hit a double. Merik Junker had two hits, while Brady Krause and Tyler Krause each drove in runs.

For Lake Norden, Jackson Noem, Matt Stevenson, Tony Campbell, Trevor Thue, Cameron Thue and Josh Cleveland each collected hits. Cameron Thue drove in two runs, while Cleveland drove in a run. Losing pitcher JD Kirchner struck out 11 batters, allowed seven hits, two earned runs and walked three batters in six innings.


Redfield Dairy Queen 12, Groton Locke Electric 2 (7 innings)

REDFIELD — Bennett Osborn drove in four runs as Redfield Dairy Queen claimed the District 2B championship Thursday.

Osborn batted 2-for-2 with two walks, a double, and four RBIs, Christian DeYoung collected two RBIs on a hit and a walk, Nolan Gall drew two walks and had an RBI-double, while Camden Osborn tallied a hit and two walks in the win as well.

Peyton Osborn tossed all seven innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and a walk, striking out six.

For Groton, Wyatt Locke took the loss allowing eight runs on four hits and seven walks in four innings.

Cole Simon tallied two doubles while Dylan Frey and Ben Althoff each had RBI-singles in the loss.

 

Menno Mad Frogs 9, Freeman Blacksox 2

LESTERVILLE — Jared Hegdahl tossed a complete game on the mound as Menno punched their ticket to the state tournament Thursday.

Hegdahl allowed two runs on nine hits while striking out five batters, earning the victory on the mound.

Dylan Lehr batted 4-for-5 with three RBIs, Brayden Sattler hit a solo homerun, Bryce Sattler and Conner Merriam each had an RBI on two hits, while Ajay Herrboldt drove in a run on one hit.

For Freeman, Jackson Fiegen allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks in 6.1 innings.

Lee Scherschligt and Mitch Wollman each tallied two hits, Fiegen drove in a run on one hit, while Rocky Ammann, Jake Weier, Jonah Hofer, and Sam Gillespie each tallied hits in the loss.

 

Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks 5, Colman A’s 4

CANOVA — Logan Larson struck out 15 batters as Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks qualified for the state tournament Thursday.

Larson allowed four runs on six hits and five walks in nine innings pitched, striking out 15 to earn the victory.

Brodie Herr tallied three hits and an RBI, Brayden Odegaard and Gage Nelson each drove in a run on one hit, while Austin King drove in a run on a walk.

For Colman, Paul Clark tallied two hits while TJ Silliman drove in a run on two hits and a walk, including a double.


Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels 10, Brandon Valley Rats 0 (7 innings)

RENNER — The Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels blanked Brandon Valley in Class A action on Thursday.

For Sioux Falls, Damon Baruth and Jack Simonsen both hammered home runs and drove in four runs apiece. Connor Hurley had two hits. Stuart Baruth earned the win, striking out 10 batters, allowing two hits, zero runs and four walks in seven innings.

For Brandon Valley, Jaxon Haase and Carter Hoffman each had hits. Daniel Buteyn took the loss, allowing seven hits, six earned runs, zero walks and struck out three batters in 2.1 innings.
