Aug. 18 Football Roundup - Parkston piles up 453 total yards in season-opening victory

Parkston 60, Kimball/White Lake 14

PARKSTON — Class 9AA No. 3 racked up 359 rushing yards in a season-opening high school football win on Friday. The Trojans tallied 453 total yards. 

Kolter Kramer recorded 115 rushing yards and one touchdown, while Luke Bormann added 104 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Carter Sommer logged 86 rushing yards and a score, while Connor Prunty scored a rushing touchdown. Sommer passed for 94 yards and threw three passing touchdowns. Kramer, Brady Boettcher and Bormann hauled in touchdown receptions. Kramer scored on a 75-yard kickoff return. 

Gage Reichert had a team-high eight tackles, while Will Jodozi had six tackles and Brayden Jervik posted five tackles. 

For Kimball/White Lake, Iden Myers rushed for 104 yards and scored two touchdowns. Lucas Lenz added 42 receiving yards and five tackles. Nathan Mohnen posted five tackles. 


Winner 8, Tri-Valley 0 (3OT) 

WINNER — Class 11B No. 1 Winner outlasted Tri-Valley in a high school football season opener on Friday. 

Winner’s Jude Sargent’s 12-yard touchdown run in the third overtime was the game’s lone score. Sargent added the ensuing two-point conversion. 

Winner’s Aiden Barfuss finished with 77 rushing yards, while Sargent added 28 rushing yards. Karson Keiser logged 23 rushing yards. The Warriors rushed for 152 yards on 53 carries. 

Sargent and Shawn Hammerbeck had 7.5 tackles apiece. Hammerbeck had an interception. 

Tri-Valley’s Eli McFarland had 67 rushing yards on 12 carries. Colby Carruthers posted 36 rushing yards and Brody Dybvig had 29 yards on the ground. The Mustangs had 166 rushing yards on 45 carries. 

Isaac Nehlich posted 10 tackles, while Carruthers logged 7.5 tackles and Landyn Reiser had an interception.


Wolsey-Wessington 50, Iroquois-Lake Preston 0

LAKE PRESTON — Class 9A No. 3 Wolsey-Wessington rushed for 351 yards on their way to a high school football win on Friday. 

Austin Wyant and Tate French combined for 177 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Gabriel Case added 74 yards and two touchdowns while Caleb Richmond found the endzone twice on the ground.

It was a tough night for Iroquois/Lake Preston as quarterback J. McMasters was 0-8 passing. The Sharks managed just 14 yards on the ground Friday night.


De Smet 40, Castlewood 12

DE SMET — Class 9B No. 2 De Smet pulled away from Class 9A No. 4 Castlewood in a Friday high school football action. The Bulldogs racked up 216 rushing yards and 120 passing yards. 

De Smet’s Britt Carlson completed 11 of 20 passes for 120 yards and tossed three touchdowns. He added 86 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown, while posting five tackles on defense. 

Kadyn Fast added 66 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He posted five tackles on defense. 

Tom Aughenbaugh hauled in 95 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions. He added four tackles and an interception on defense. Ganon Henrich had a receiving touchdown. 

Gannon Gilligan posted a team-high 11 tackles, while Sam Gigov logged seven tackles. Trace Van Regenmorter had 40 rushing yards and six tackles.

For Castlewood, Quincy Thu had an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and 13 tackles on defense. Brody Bass had a 27-yard rushing touchdown and eight tackles defensively. Kamden Keszler logged 11 tackles. 

The Warriors rushed for 108 yards and passed for 68 yards. 


Timber Lake 32, Lemmon-McIntosh 6

TIMBER LAKE — Timber Lake pulled away from Lemmon-McIntosh for a high school football win on Friday.

Gracen Hansen completed 6 of 9 attempts for 145 yards and threw two passing touchdowns. He added 85 rushing yards and a touchdown. Cole Ducheneaux logged 63 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown, while he hauled in two touchdown passes. Gavin Farlee posted 170 receiving yards and caught two touchdowns. 

For Lemmon-McIntosh, Sawyer Thompson threw for 129 yards and Nathan Penfield passed for 74 yards. Blair Ham added 73 rushing yards and Lemmon-McIntosh’s lone touchdown. Logan Dreiske hauled in 93 receiving yards. 

 

Hamlin 54, Florence/Henry 0

HENRY — Class 9AA No. 4 Hamlin reeled off 33 first-quarter points on its way to a shutout win over Florence/Henry in high school football action Friday night. 

Evan Stormo had two rushing touchdowns and hauled in two touchdown receptions from Tyson Stevenson to lead the offense. Stevenson completed 5-10 passes for 64 yards and added a rushing touchdown.

Dawson Lantgen led the Falcons with 24 yards passing while Karter Kohlenberg added 13 yards on the ground for Florence/Henry.

 

Leola-Frederick Area 26, Herreid-Selby Area 0

SELBY — Leola/Frederick Area pitched a shutout win over Class 9B No. 3 Herreid/Selby Area on Friday.

Leola/Frederick Area’s Brayden Sumption, Gavin Nickelson, Austin Mantei and Westyn Thorpe each scored rushing touchdowns in the upset win. 

For Herreid/Selby Area, Porter Gregg rushed for 24 yards and Houston Hauge had 21 rushing yards. Mason Vetter logged 20 rushing yards. Wayde Grage threw for 17 yards. Cole Zabel had nine tackles, while Grage posted seven tackles.

 

Hitchcock-Tulare 50, Northwestern 0

MELLETTE — Class 9B No. 1 Hitchcock-Tulare blanked Northwestern for a season-opening high school football win on Friday. The Patriots rushed for 230 yards and passed for 151 yards. 

Hitchcock-Tulare’s Erik Salmen logged 10 carries for 125 yards and scored two touchdowns. Brendan Nowell logged 43 rushing yards and scored two rushing scores. Nowell added 151 passing yards and tossed three touchdown passes. Payton Chasing Hawk had 84 receiving yards and a touchdown reception, while he rushed for 42 yards. Patrick Maynard and Mason Tschetter hauled in touchdown receptions. 

Salmen recorded 12 tackles, while Jackson Maynard logged 11 tackles. 

The Patriots held Northwestern to 11 rushing yards and 10 passing yards.


Elk Point Jefferson 48, Parker 6

ELK POINT — Defending Class 11B champion and No. 2 Elk Point-Jefferson used a balanced offensive attack to knock off Parker in high school football action Friday. 

Huskies quarterback Keaton Gale completed 11-of-20 passes for 195 yards and three touchdown passes. EPJ receivers Carson Timmins, Garrett Merkley and Ashton Fairbanks combined for 195 yards receiving with each catching a touchdown pass. Running backs Gunner Ewing, Garrett Merkley and Luke Schmitz each scored a rushing touchdown.

Parker’s offense was led by Michael Even’s 60 yards rushing and 27 yards passing. Even threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Collin Robertson for the Pheasants only score. 

 

Alcester-Hudson 51, Centerville 18

ALCESTER — Alcester-Hudson used a balanced offensive attack and a 24-point second quarter to pick up a win over Centerville in high school football action Friday. 

Alcester–Hudson ground out 245 yards rushing and 189 yards passing in their first outing of the season. After Centerville posted the first score of the game, Alcester Hudson ripped off five consecutive scores and led 36-14 at halftime. 

Centerville managed 61 yards on the ground while passing for 204 yards.
