The boys DWU/Culver’s Classic Feb. 14 at the Corn Palace. 

The nine-game classic starts with Philip vs. Howard at 9 a.m. and concludes with Ethan vs. Parkston at 9 p.m. The classic features 10 teams either ranked or receiving votes in the latest South Dakota Prep Media Basketball Poll. 

All Games will be streamed exclusively online as Pay-Per-View via LiveTicket.tv at dwu.liveticket.tv. Viewers can purchase each game for $12.99 apiece. It is a livestream only and no playbacks will be available. 


Here’s a look at the games to watch: 

Wall vs Freeman

A consolation championship rematch tips off at 4:30.

Class B No. 5 Wall matches up with Class B No. 4 Freeman in a rematch of last season’s state consolation championship.

The Eagles come into the Corn Palace at 13-3 on the year, with its only losses coming against Mahpiya Luta (61-59), Pine Ridge (70-67) and Class B No. 2 Viborg-Hurley (61-51).

Wall is averaging 73 points per game this season, the most in all of Class B boys basketball, including a 100-57 win over White River on Feb. 5. Junior guard/forward Teelan Kjerstad had 48 points in the win, including 10 three-pointers. Kjerstad is averaging 28.6 points per game, and has seven games with 30 or more points. 

Freeman (14-2) enters Saturday’s matchup riding a 13-game winning streak, with losses to Viborg-Hurley (73-64) and Pine Ridge (79-66).

The Flyers are led by sophomore David Walter and senior Tate Sorensen.


Pine Ridge vs Hamlin

Two teams with state tournament aspirations will square off at noon at the Corn Palace. 

Class A No. 4 Hamlin (14-2) will play Pine Ridge (11-6) in a matchup featuring two teams with eyes on qualifying for the state tournament. 

Hamlin, which has played in the past two Class A state championships, have dropped games against Class A No. 9 Groton Area (55-50) and Class A No. 1 West Central (69-48). The Chargers own quality wins over Flandreau (62-47), Castlewood (53-37), Sioux Valley (57-54), De Smet (80-63), Viborg-Hurley (57-39) and Lennox (59-53). 

The Chargers are led by senior Jackson Wadsworth, a 6-foot-3 guard headed to play college basketball at Northern State University. 

The Thorpes are headlined by all-stater Marvin Richard III, who is averaging 29.5 points per game. Richard III has more than 2,000 career points, and is currently the ninth-leading scorer in South Dakota boys basketball history. 

Pine Ridge lost five of its first nine games, but have dropped just one game this calendar year, a 74-69 setback against Sioux Valley. The Thorpes will also play Class A No. 5 Lennox in Vermillion on Friday, presenting a challenging two-game swing for Pine Ridge. 


Sioux Falls Christian vs St. Thomas More

Two of the best teams in Class A boys basketball tips off at 6 p.m.

Class A No. 2 Sioux Falls Christian matches up with No. 6 St. Thomas More in an East vs. West showdown.

The Chargers enter Saturday with just one loss on the year to Class A No. 1 West Central (64-55) while picking up ranked wins over Class A No. 5 Lennox (64-38), No. 7 Vermillion (91-77), No. 3 Clark-Willow Lake (71-60) and even Class AA No. 4 Huron (66-61).

SFC is led by junior guard Brant Wassenaar, who currently holds offers to the University of South Dakota, South Dakota State, Northern State, Augustana and Drake.

STM enters the Corn Palace with a 12-4 record, but just two losses to South Dakota opponents including Class A No. 1 West Central (46-42) and Class A No. 5 Lennox (51-49).

The Cavaliers most recently knocked off Class A No. 8 Mahpiya Luta, 64-34, and are led by Wyatt Gylten, a future Gillette College men’s basketball player. 


Wessington Springs vs Viborg-Hurley

Class B No. 8 Wessington Springs takes on Class B No. 2 Viborg-Hurley in a ranked showdown at 7:30.

The Spartans come in with a 13-4 record and are still looking for a ranked win this season, losing to Class B No. 3 De Smet (71-53), Class A No. 3 Clark-Willow Lake (72-43) and Class B No. 4 Freeman (51-48). WS also lost to Sanborn Central-Woonsocket, 51-47, in the 281 Conference championship.

The Spartans are led by seniors Parker Graff, a Dakota Wesleyan basketball commit, and Colby Flowers, a Northern State football signee.

The Cougars (15-2) enter the Corn Palace on a four-game win streak after dropping back-to-back contests to Class A No. 4 Hamlin (57-39) and Centerville (39-36). The Cougars have two ranked wins on the year against Class B No. 4 Freeman (73-64) and Class B No. 5 Wall (61-51).

VH is led by seniors Brady Schroedemeier, a South Dakota State football signing, and Braydyn Morrison. Schroedermeier totaled 34 points and 15 rebounds in a 78-67 win over Parker-Marion on Feb. 10.
