Brandon Valley's state record in 3,200-meter relay highlights Eastern South Dakota Conference meet

BROOKINGS — Since 2005 the Yankton girls have held the state record in the 3,200-meter relay (9:01.79).

That record went by the wayside Saturday as the Brandon Valley foursome of Addison Scholten, Sarah VanDeBerg, Lily Rude and Mia Wentzy broke nine-minutes running an 8:59.60.

That distance relay effort was part of a big day for the Lynx who captured the Eastern South Dakota Conference title Saturday scoring 201.75 points, ahead of Harrisburg (144) and Aberdeen Central (110.25). Watertown (89) and Pierre rounded out the top-five teams.

The Harrisburg boys won the ESD title Saturday scoring 169.5 points, ahead of Brandon Valley (113.5) and Yankton (101. Aberdeen Central (86) and Pierre (75) rounded out the top five teams. 

The Brandon Valley girls flexed their might Saturday getting wins from Kyra Weiss in the 400-meter dash (:57.47), Mia Wentzy in the 800-meter run (2:19.53) and Sarah VanDeBerg in  the 1,600-meter run (5:06.46). Shelby Bergan won the 300-meter hurdles (:45.35), Morgan Becker won the pole vault (10-3) and Madison Pederson won the long jump (18-00.75) and triple jump (37-6). The Lynx won titles in the 800-meter relay (1:42.78), the 1,600-meter relay (4:03.45) and the sprint medley relay (4:20.70). 

Harrisburg’s Hannah Genrich won the 3,200-meter run (10:55.10) and Addie Budig won the 100-meter hurdles (:15.12). 

Aberdeen Central won the 400-meter relay (:50.26) and Ciara Frank won the high jump (5-5).

Pierre’s Kali Ringstmeyer won the 100-meter dash (:12.09), the 200-meter dash (:25.40) and ran a leg on Pierre’s third place 400-meter relay team (:50.96). Pierre’s Reese Terwilliger captured the shot put (42-4).

For the Harrisburg boys, Tate Larson won the 200-meter dash (:21.89), the 110-meter hurdles (:14.82), finished second in the 300-hurdles (:41.32) and ran a leg on the winning 800-meter relay team (1:29.51). Harrisburg’s Beau Karst captured the pole vault (15-3), Eli Yoway won the long jump (22-2).

The Brandon Valley boys dabbled in the sprints and relays, winning the sprint medley relay (3:38.67). The Lynx got wins from Josh Olthoff in the javelin (159-10), and took the top three spots in the triple jump led by Mach Mayen’s winning effort of (45-5.5)

Watertown’s Boaz Raderschadt won the shot put (57-8) and the discus (165-8)

Mitchell’s Nathan McCormick finished third in the 100-meter dash (:11.00), fourth in the 200-meter dash (:22.23), won the 400-meter dash (:50.05) and ran a leg on Mitchell’s third place 1,600-meter relay (3:28.56). 

Brookings senior Jon Kahler won the 800-meter run (1:57.78) and ran the opening leg on the Bobcats winning 1,600-meter relay team (3:28.38) and the opening leg on Brookings’ winning 3,200-meter relay team (8:08.17). 

Yankton’s Austin Gobel won the 100-meter dash (:10.77) with teammate Dylan Payer winning the 1,600-meter run (4:20.14).
