Brothers Thayne and Talon Elshere score top two saddle bronc rides in CNFR's first go-round

CASPER, Wyo. — Thayne and Talon Elshere — brothers from Hereford — had the top two saddle bronc rides in the first go-round at the College National Finals Rodeo.

Thayne Elshere, a freshman at Gillette College, scored an 84.5 to sit atop the first go-round standings. Talon Elshere, a junior at Casper Community College, scored an 80.5 for the second-best score in the first go-round.

Eastan West, who also hails from Hereford, scored a 75.5 in the first go-round and tied for sixth place in the round. West, who also attends Casper Community College, scored 76 in the second go-round and tied for fourth in the round.

West is currently third in the saddle bronc standings with a 151.5 average. Talon Elshere is currently tied for seventh with a 146 average. 

Glenham’s Holden Eisemann, who attends Mitchell Technical College, scored a 72.5 in the second go-round of the saddle bronc riding. 

Black Hills State’s Clayton Backhaus and South Dakota State’s Lan Fuhrer, of Belle Fourche, combined to win the team roping’s first go-round with a time of 6.1 seconds.
