WATERTOWN — Brynn Roehrich ran it back.

The Clark/Willow Lake sophomore repeated as the Class B girls golf state champion, shooting an even par 144 at Watertown’s Prairie Winds Golf Club on Tuesday.

Roehrich became the first Class B girls golfer to win back-to-back state tournaments since Miller’s Jayce Pugh in 2021 and ‘22.

“It obviously feels good again to have won again,” Roehrich said. “I would say this one is probably a little more special as my sister (Faith) joined me on the team this year and placed 12th. So that’s pretty cool that I get to play with her.”

Roehrich shot 72s on both days, and edged Chester’s Jadyn McDonald (+4) and Pugh (+7) for the state championship.

Roehrich’s round on Tuesday was highlighted by a 34 on the back nine, including three birdies. She added two birdies on the back nine and shot a 38 to close out the day.

Roehrich admitted she struggled leading into the tournament with the expectations of repeating as state champ. But she leaned on her summer coach, Eric Stevens of Vitality Golf Academy, entering the 36-hole tournament.

“I felt like people were just going to expect me to come back in and win again, and Eric just told me it’s not that easy, and people that golf know that,” Roehrich said.

Roehrich also had an advantage playing at Prairie Winds Golf Club, which is seven minutes away from her home and she said “I play there about every day.”

The familiarity helped Roehrich settle in as she captured back-to-back state championships.

“I was pretty comfortable,” Roehrich said. “Like my parents say I pretty much know that course like the back of my hand.”

But it also added a special feeling for Roehrich, who received a round of applause from all the regulars at the course after she clinched it.

“At the end all the people that I golf with were sitting around the green, and were supporting,” Roehrich said. “So it’s pretty cool.”

Roehrich, who helped the Cyclones finish third, will continue to golf this summer on the Sanford Golf Series and will play in other golf events.
