SIOUX FALLS — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Liz Boschee saved one of her best javelin throws for last.

The senior tossed a mark of 147-07 to win the Class B javelin throw championship on the second day of the 2026 state track and field meet.

After a second-place finish in the Class B girls high jump (5-05) earlier in the day, Boschee added a first-place finish in the javelin.

“I felt amazing,” said Boschee. “It felt like a good day after high jump. It's been a great day.”

After recording each of her first three throws under 130-feet, Boschee’s first attempt in the finals was one for the record books.

“I had to run and go to my check-in for hurdles,” Boschee said. “I think that’s what got me really moving because I had to run. I came back and was like ‘I just need to chuck it’.

“I was trying to make my PR again, I was hoping for 140. Throwing 147 was really great, but that was my goal.”

It was not only a new personal best for Boschee by nearly seven feet (140-09), it broke the meet record of 127-03 set last year by Hitchcock-Tulare’s Katelyn Schroeder and is a new all-time state record surpassing Rapid City Stevens’ Brynn Nelson (137-04) in 2024.

“It feels amazing,” said Boschee on being the state’s all-time girls javelin leader. “When I started throwing javelin, I’m like ‘I know I can do better,’ and that throw just proves that I can still do better, but it feels amazing.”

The future Northern State women’s basketball player will also compete in the finals of the Class B girls 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles to close out her high school career on Saturday

“It’s sad, but just taking the time, enjoying it while I can,” said Boschee. “I love everyone on my team, It’s definitely sad though.”
