Class A Girls Roundup - Tea Area edges Sioux Falls Christian, advances to title game

BROOKINGS — Tea Area’s Katie Vasecka hit a pair of late free throws as Tea Area slipped past Sioux Falls Christian Friday at the Class A girls state basketball tournament. 

Vasecka hit two 3-pointers and finished with 16 points, four rebounds and two assists. Mara Grant added 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Haidyn West chipped in with nine points. 

Aubrie VanBeek led the Chargers with 10 points and four rebounds. Avery Reitz added nine points, five rebounds and two assists. Mya Nelson and Sydney Schaap each had six points for Sioux Falls Christian. 


Mahpiya Luta 62, Mount Vernon/Plankinton 41

BROOKINGS — Three players reached double figures  as Mahpiya Luta ran past Mount Vernon/Plankinton in consolation action Friday. 

Jodene Hunter knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with 21 points, two rebounds and two assists. Ashlan Carlow-Blount had 15 points, five rebounds and nine assists. Mya Mills scored 14 points and hauled in four rebounds while Kennedy Fridia grabbed seven rebounds. 

Emilee Fox led MVP with 17 points and nine rebounds. Reagan Rus added 16 points and eight assists. 


Flandreau 65, Hanson 33

BROOKINGS — Three players reached double figure scoring as Flandreau defeated Hanson in consolation action Friday from the Class A state tournament. 

Lily Klein continued her strong tournament play with 23 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Claire Sheppard made six 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists. Lizzie Pavlis added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Fliers.

Eliza Oltmanns led Hanson with nine points while Alyssa Moschell scored eight points. Taziah Hawkins and Kylie Haiar each scored six points for Hanson.
