Sioux Falls Christian junior Paul Hoekman has been flirting with the 60-foot barrier in the shot put all spring.

At Tuesday’s Dakota Valley Invitational Hoekman crushed the 60-foot barrier with a throw of (61-0) that is the top mark in South Dakota this spring. Hoekman also leads the Class A discus with a mark of (158-00). 

Sioux Falls Christian is not nearly as strong in the running events as they traditionally are, but suddenly the throwers look like they could score major points at the state meet. Marcus Furth has Class A’s fourth best shot put (50-1). Nick Popkes has Class A’s third best throw in the discus (151-10).
