Class AA Volleyball Roundup - Harrisburg wins back-to-back state championships

Harrisburg 3, Sioux Falls Washington 1

RAPID CITY — The Harrisburg Tigers defeated Sioux Falls Washington in four sets Friday to repeat as Class A state champions.  The set scores were 25-28, 15-25, 25-22 and 25-20.

Gabi Zachariasen finished with 30 kills and 11 digs for Harrisburg. Josalyn Samuels handed out 45 assists and had seven digs. Bergen Stiff had seven kills and a dig and Karalynn Leach had five kills and two digs. 

Cate Legel had 11 kills to go along with an ace and nine digs for Washinton. Kaelyn Snoozy added 11 kills and nine 

digs while Carlie Beckstrand had ten kills and a dig. Macie Malchow had three kills to go along with her 37 digs, an ace and 10 digs.

Sioux Falls Jefferson 3, Sioux Falls O’Gorman 0

RAPID CITY — Sioux Falls Jefferson swept Sioux Falls O’Gorman for a third-place finish at the Class AA state volleyball tournament on Saturday. The set scores were 25-18, 25-12 and 25-21.

Jefferson’s Mya Hejl posted 11 kills, while Emory Brosnahan posted 10 kills and two aces. Presly Pastian added 11 digs and four kills. Averi Schmitt logged 10 digs. Cora Hokenstad added 13 digs and two aces. Ella Kvernmo posted 10 kills and two aces. Elizabeth Spah and Hejl had two block assists. 

For O’Gorman, Tyla Mauney posted 23 digs and Kyra Hermanson posted 10 digs and 17 assists. Makenzie Walsh logged nine kills. Lilly Wuebben had a solo block. Keira McManus had three block assists. 


Sioux Falls Lincoln 3, Aberdeen Central 1

RAPID CITY — Sioux Falls Lincoln defeated Aberdeen Central in four sets Saturday to earn seventh place at the Class AA state tournament in Rapid City. The set scores were 25-21, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-17. 

Linnea Nesheim led Lincoln with eight kills, two assists, eight digs and five block assists. Ella Warden had 13 assists and 12 digs while Josie Tollinger had 15 assists and seven digs. Kaitlyn Koel added seven kills and six assists and Emma Kruse finished with six kills, five digs and four assisted blocks. 

Ashley Wangler led Aberdeen Central with 13 kills, an assist and an ace. Lauryn Burckhard had 11 kills, an assist, an ace, four digs and an assisted block. Arylie Waldo dished out 38 assists, had two kills, an ace and 15 digs. Alvia MIller added nine kills, three digs and an assisted block while Sawyer Bahr had two aces, four assists and 13 digs for Aberdeen Central. 


Watertown 3, Brandon Valley 1

RAPID CITY — Watertown defeated Brandon Valley in four sets Saturday to claim fifth place at the Class AA state volleyball tournament in Rapid City. The set scores were 25-20, 25-21, 21-25 and 25-19.

Emery Thury led Watertown with 25 kills, two aces, 21 digs and two assisted blocks. Emily Tisher added ten kills, two assists and a dig while Carter Jurens had seven kills, a dig and three  block assists. Miranda Falconer recorded 47 assists and had three kills and three digs. Hannah Herzog added five kills, one solo block and three block assists. 

Abby Gruber powered the Brandon Valley attack Saturday with 18 kills and five block assists. Jersie Melcher finished with 16 kills, four digs and two block assists. Riya Sheley finished with 43 assists, two assists, two aces, eight digs and four block assists. Kennedi Boomsma had six kills and Sydney Benson led with 22 digs.
