Class AA Volleyball Roundup - Washington rallies past Jefferson, advances to state title match

Sioux Falls Washington 3, Sioux Falls Jefferson 2 

RAPID CITY — Sioux Falls Washington rallied past Sioux Falls Jefferson and will play in the Class AA state championship match on Saturday. The set scores were 18-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21 and 15-12.

Cate Legal paced the Washington attack with 22 kills to go along with two aces, eight assists and three assisted blocks. Kaelyn Snoozy had 13 kills a nd 16 assists while Macie Malchow finished with 48 assists, seven digs and 13 assists. Taryn Kirsch led the Warriors with 23 digs.

Ella Kvernmo led Jefferson with 19 kills and added an assist and 16 digs. Elizabeth Spah had 11 kills, five digs and three block assists while Mya Hejl had 11 kills, three digs and three block assists. Presley Pastian had a big night with 55 assists and 12 digs while Cora Hokenstad has a team-leading 23 digs. 

Watertown 3, Aberdeen Central 0

RAPID CITY — Watertown swept Aberdeen Central in Class AA state volleyball tournament action on Friday. The set scores were 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23.

Watertown’s Emery Thury posted 13 kills and 18 digs. Emily Tisher posted 12 kills. Natalie Pearson had 20 digs and Addi Johnston posted 12 digs. Miranda Falconer finished with 11 digs and 28 assists. 

For Aberdeen Central, Alivia Miller posted 10 kills and six digs. Kenadi Withers finished with six kills and three digs. Ayrlie Waldo posted 23 assists and nine digs. Sawyer Bahr added 10 digs. 


Brandon Valley 3, Sioux Falls Lincoln 0

RAPID CITY— Brandon Valley earned a three-set win over Sioux Falls Lincoln Friday, advancing to Saturday’s Consolation Championship of the AA state volleyball tournament where they will face Watertown. The set scores were 25-20, 25-20 and 25-23. 

Jayaunna Stroh led the Lynx with 10 kills, two aces, six digs and an assisted block. Abby Gruber also had 10 kills and added an assist, a dig and two assisted blocks. Riya Shelly dished out 25 assists and had two kills, seven digs, an assisted block and a solo block. 

Jazmen Kutey led the Patriots with ten kills, an ace, two digs and two assisted blocks. Ella Warden led with 12 assists and also had a kill, an ace and three digs. Josie Tollinger had 11 assists and a digs while Addison Albrecht had two aces and nine digs. 


Harrisburg 3, O’Gorman 1

RAPID CITY — Top ranked Harrisburg dropped a set but looked in control Friday with a four-set win over O’Gorman in the semifinals of the Class AA state tournament. The set scores were 25-21, 25-13, 19-25 and 25-21. 

Gabi Zachariasen powered the Harrisburg attack with 26 kills while adding an assist and 16 digs. Kennedy Kokenge finished with 11 kills, three aces, nine digs and a block assist. Josalyn Samuels handed out 51 assists and had a kill, five aces, 11 digs and a block assist. Bergen Stiff added seven kills while Karalynn Leach had six kills and three digs. 

O’Gorman’s Makenzie Walsh finished with ten kills, two digs, a solo block and a block assist. Keira McManusk had nine kills, an ace, two digs and a block assist. Kyra Hermanson led the team with 33 assists and had a kill and six digs. Tyla Mauney had a team-leading 27 assists for O’Gorman.
