De Smet 52, Aberdeen Christian 44

WATERTOWN — De Smet used a 19-15 fourth quarter to put away Aberdeen Christian in the first round of the Class B girls basketball tournament on Thursday.

Kennadi Buchholz led the Bulldogs with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Jada Burke added 13 points, while Camryn Schmidt scored eight points. Hazel Luethmers had five rebounds and four points, while Emma Albrecht added five rebounds. 

Aberdeen Christian’s Mallory Miller recorded 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Hanna Miller added 12 points and 14 boards. Grace Kaiser finished with six points. 

De Smet will play Faith in Friday’s championship semifinals. Aberdeen Christian will play Wall in Friday’s consolation semifinals.

 

Faith 54, Wall 34

WATERTOWN — Faith used a 20-9 second quarter to pull away from Wall in the first round of the Class B girls basketball tournament on Thursday.

Kaycee Groves and Cassidy Schuelke led the Longhorns with 15 points apiece. TyAnn Mortenson discord 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Kambelle Schauer added eight points.

Wall was led by Paige Kjerstad with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Nora Dinger and Ava Dinger scored eight points apiece. Ava Dinger also grabbed seven rebounds.

Faith will play De Smet in Friday’s championship semifinals. Wall will play Aberdeen Christian in Friday’s consolation semifinals.


Viborg-Hurley 69, Aberdeen Roncalli 58

WATERTOWN — No. 8 Viborg-Hurley stunned No. 1 Aberdeen Roncalli in the opening round of the Class B girls basketball tournament on Thursday. 

Denae Mach led the Cougars with 22 points, six rebounds and hit three 3-pointers. Coral Mason added 19 points and five boards, while Estelle Lee added 17 points. Shelby Lyons recorded nine points, all coming from the 3-point line. The Cougars hit 7 of 17 from the 3-point line.

Roncalli’s Madelyn Bragg finished with 24 points and seven rebounds. Morgan Fiedler added 13 points and five rebounds, while Jeci Ewart logged 10 points and six rebounds. Ava Hanson scored eight points for the Cavaliers, who won last year’s Class A state championship.

Viborg-Hurley will play Corsica-Stickney in Friday’s championship semifinals. Roncalli will play White River in Friday’s consolation semifinals. 


Corsica-Stickney 49, White River 43

WATERTOWN — Trailing 39-33 entering the fourth quarter, Corsica-Stickney outscored White River 16-4 to knock off the defending Class B champions and secure a berth in Friday’s Class B semifinals.

The Jaguars were led by Avery Broughton with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Rachel Gerlach and Morgan Clites each tallied nine points. Gerlach also grabbed seven boards and Casey Tolsma added five points.

White River was led by Maleighya Estes with 22 points, while Rhea Tucker scored 10 points. Tana Bear Heels recorded eight points, and Kelsey Morrison added five points. 

Corsica-Stickney will play Viborg-Hurley in Friday’s championship semifinals. White River will play Roncalli in Friday’s consolation semifinals.
