Class B Volleyball Roundup - Burke sweeps Castlewood for third-place finish

Burke 3, Castlewood 0

RAPID CITY — The Burke Cougars defeated Castlewood Friday to claim a third place finish at the 2023 South Dakota Class B state volleyball tournament. The set scores were 25-22, 25-23 and 25-21. 

Emmie Hausmann led the Cougars with 14 kills, an assist, two aces and seven digs. Kailee Frank led Burke’s efforts with 11 digs and she added an assist, an ace and 15 digs.  Ava Sarget led in assists with 18 and she added two aces and five digs. Paige Bull finished with eight kills, two digs and had a solo block and four block assists while Piper Hanson had four digs and an assist. Elle Johnson had two assists and 13 digs. 

Presle Knect led Castlewood with 16 kills and 11 digs. Emerson Carter had ten kills, two digs, a solo block and three assisted blocks. Gracie Haug dished out 33 assists to go with five digs and Kailyn Larson had eight digs. 


Faulkton Area 3, Gayville-Volin 0

RAPID CITY — Faulkton Area captured seventh place at the Class B state volleyball tournament on Saturday. The set scores were 25-21, 25-15 and 25-15.

Faulkton Area’s Carley Cotton logged 13 kills and 17 digs. Anna Aesoph posted 15 digs, while Addison Melius recorded 13 kills and 13 digs. Tegan Baloun had 10 digs and 16 assists. Micah Martinmaas had 14 assists and five digs. Kelli Stoecker had four block assists and Aedyn Raethz added three block assists. 

Gayville-Volin’s Taylor Hoxeng finished with 18 digs, while Maia Achen posted seven kills and eight digs. Keeley Larson had 18 assists and nine digs. Jolie Westrum added 15 digs and Ayla Dimmer posted 13 digs. Aliza Westrum, Achen, Larson and Kayden Bye had two block assists apiece. 


Colman-Egan 3, Wolsey-Wessington 2

RAPID CITY — Colman-Egan knocked off Wolsey-Wessington for fifth place at the Class B state tournament in Rapid City. The set scores were 22-25, 20-25, 25-12, 25-20 and 15-12.

Brynlee Landis led Colman-Egan with 20 kills, two aces, eight digs, a solo block and two block assists. Daniela Lee contributed 15 kills and had ten digs, two solo blocks and eight assisted blocks. Lanie Mousel led with 25 assists and had seven digs and a solo block. Kaylee Boekler finished with three kills, 21 assists, fourteen digs and a solo block

Kailynn Dorris led Wolsey-Wessington with 22 kills, an ace, nine digs and two block assists. Samara Clemente added 17 kills and had two digs and a solo block while Tatum Lace added 12 kills, three assists, an ace and six digs. Kendell Uttecht led the Warbirds with 32 assists and 21 digs.
