Class B Volleyball Roundup - Castlewood upsets Colman-Egan, advances to semifinals

Castlewood 3, Colman-Egan 1

RAPID CITY — Castlewood dropped three matches to Colman-Egan during the regular season but on Thursday the Warriors turned the tables, edging the Hawks in four tough sets at the Class B state volleyball tournament. The set scores were 25-21, 25-20, 24-26 and 25-23. 

Presley Knecht led Castlewood with 24 kills and added 14 digs and two block assists.Emerson Carter finished with 23 kills, three digs, three solo blocks and eight assisted blocks. Gracie Haug dished out 48 assists to go along with three aces, 11 digs and three block assists. Karli Akin added 10 digs while Cassidy Kirwan had three kills and five digs. 

Daniela Lee led Castlewood with 15 kills and added an assist, two aces. 20 digs one solo block and five assisted blocks. Brynlee Landis also had 15 kills and had 11 digs on the night. Lanie Mousel finished with 27 assists, two kills, an ace and 11 digs while Kaylee Voelker had 19 assists, three kills, 12 digs and four assisted blocks. Elaina Rhode added eight kills and two digs while Anna Zwart had six kills, two digs and a solo block.


Warner 3, Gayville-Volin 0

RAPID CITY — After a sluggish start top ranked Warner pulled away for a straight-sets win over Gayville-Volin on Thursday at the Class B state tournament.  The set scores were 25-23, 25-9 and 25-9. 

Kyleigh Schopp powered the Warner attack with 13 kills, two digs, two solo blocks and three block assists. Ava Nilsson produced 31 assists, five kills, two aces, five digs and one assisted block. Lauren Macuson finished with nine kills, three aces and 16 digs while Kyra Marcuson had three kills, two aces, five digs and one block assist. Makenna Leidholt had six kills and a solo block with Courtney Bjorgaard finishing with 19 digs. 

Freshman Maia Achen powered Gayville-Volin with 12 kills, an ace, seven digs and a solo block. Keely Larson led the Raiders with 15 assists and also added two kills and five digs. Aliza Westrum finished with four kills while Jolie Westrum had two aces and eight digs. Taylor Hoxeng finished with 19 digs and Ayla Dimmer had nine digs. 


Burke 3, Wolsey-Wessington 2

RAPID CITY — Burke outlasted Wolsey-Wessington in five grueling sets Thursday at the Class B state tournament in Rapid City. The set scores were 25-19, 25-16, 15-25, 23-25 and 15-11.

Kailee Frank led Burke with 20 kills, three assists and 18 digs. Emmie Hausmann contributed 17 kills, three aces, 11 digs and two assisted blocks. Ava Sargent finished with 21 assists, two aces, 15 digs and one assisted block. Paige Bull put down 14 kills while having three solo blocks and six assisted blocks. Elle Johnson finished with four aces and 37 digs. 

Kendal Uttecht led Wolsey-Wessington with 27 assists, two kills, two aces, 20 digs and two assisted blocks. Samara Clemente finished with 14 kills, three digs, three solo blocks and three assisted blocks. Payton Kemnitz contributed 23 assists, an ace and six digs. Tatum Lace had eight kills, five digs and two assisted blocks and Lainey Uttecht had seven kills and 24 digs. Shae Uttecht finished with a kill and 25 digs. 


Chester 3, Faulkton Area 0

RAPID CITY — Chester earned a straight-sets win over Faulkton Area Thursday at the Class B state tournament in Rapid City. The set scores were 25-15, 25-10 and 25-14. 

Chester;s Lily VanHal filled the stat sheet with 11 kills, 22 assists, an assist, an ace and 11 digs. Jacy Wolf finished with 10 kills, nine assists and 15 digs. Emery Larson had six aces and 23 digs while Emmerson Eppard had 11 kills and assist, two aces and five digs. Addison Bates contributed six kills, a solo block and two assisted blocks and Emilee Bleekerhad three kills, a solo block and an assisted block. 

Addison Melius led Faulkton Area with eight kills, an ace and 11 digs. Tegan Baloun finished with a kill, 10 assists and four digs while Anna Aesoph had ten digs. Micah Martinmaas had seven assists and five digs while Aedyn Raethz had a kill, five digs and an assisted block.
