Class B Volleyball Roundup - Chester sweeps Castlewood, sets up rematch with Warner

Chester 3, Castlewood 0

RAPID CITY — Chester held off upset-minded Castlewood in straight sets to earn a spot in the Class B state volleyball championship match. The set scores were 25-13, 25-20 and 25-21.

Chester will play Warner on Saturday in the state championship. Warner defeated the Flyers in last season’s Class B state championship. 

Chester’s Jacy Wolf finished with 12 kills, nine digs and seven assists. Lily VanHal and Addison Bates posted seven 11 kills apiece. Emmerson Eppard added 10 kills and five digs. Emery Larson logged 17 digs. VanHal had 31 assists. 

For Ceastlewood, Presley Knecht posted 12 kills and three digs. Emerson Carter tallied 10 kills and six digs. Kylie Wittnebel logged seven digs. Gracie Haug added 20 assists and eight digs.  


Wolsey-Wessington 3, Gayville-Volin 1

RAPID CITY — After dropping the first set Wolsey-Wessington rallied to take the next three with a win over Gayville-Volin on Friday at the Class B state volleyball tournament in Rapid City. The set scores were 27-29, 25-12, 25-20 and 25-21.

Kailynn Dorris led the Warbirds with 24 kills while adding an assist, an ace, 13 digs and three block assists. Sarah Clemente had 10 kills, 4 digs, two solo blocks and assisted on four blocks. Tatum Lace had nine digs, an assist, an ace and a solo block. Kendall Utecht finished with a kill, 27 assists, 11 digs and assisted on four blocks. Rachel Boomsma contributed three kills, 22 assists and 20 digs for the Warbirds. 

Leading Gayville-Volin Friday was freshman Maia Achen who had 24 kills, an assist and 19 digs. Keely Larson finished with 34 assists, a kill and 21 digs. Aliza Westrum added seven kills and six digs and Paisley Dimer had six kills and five digs. 


Colman-Egan 3, Faulkton Area 0

RAPID CITY — After dropping the first two sets of Friday’s consolation game against Faulkton Area, Colman-Egan came roaring back. The Hawks won the final three sets including a heart-pounding 19-17 fifth set. The set scores were 12-25, 18-25, 25-10, 25-23 and 19-17. 

Colman-Egan was powered by Brynlee Landis who had 21 kills, two assists, an ace, 24 digs and an assisted block. Daniela Lee added 13 kills, three assists, an ace and 32 digs while Presley Luze had an assist and 28 digs. Lanie Mousel finished with two digs, 17 assists and 11 digs. 

Addison Melius led Faulkton Area with 22 kills and 18 digs while Carley Cotton had 21 kills, an assist, two aces, 19 digs and two assisted blocks. Tegan Baloun had 27 assists and 17 digs with Micah Martinmaas adding 22 assists, two aces and eight digs. 


Warner 3, Burke 0

RAPID CITY — Tops ranked Warner cruised into the Class B state championship match with a straight-sets win over Burke on Friday at the state volleyball tournament. The set scores were 25-16, 25-22 and 25-11. 

Ava Nilsson stuffed the stat sheet with five kills, 33 assists, an ace, two solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Kyra Marcuson led the Monarch hitters with 14 kills to go along with two assists, an ace and four digs. Lauren Marcuson delivered nine kills, an assist, an ace, 11 digs and two assisted blocks. Kyleigh Schopp had six kills, an ace and four block assists and Makenna Leidholt had five kills and two digs for Warner. 

Emmie Hausmann paced the Burke hitters with six kills and she added six digs. Kailee Frank had five kills, an ace and six digs and Piper Hanson finished with four kills, an assist and two digs. Ava Sargent finished with 10 assists.
