Colman-Egan girls break 800-meter relay record, six other records fall on Day 1 of Howard Wood Dakota Relays

SIOUX FALLS — The Colman-Egan girls 800-meter relay team broke one of seven meet records during Day 1 of the 101st Howard Wood Dakota Relays.

The Hawks’ quartet of Finley Luze, Crystal Silva-Dominguez, Brynlee Landis and Jolie Flatten ran the Class B 800-meter relay in 1:44.12, breaking their own mark set at Howard Wood just last season by over two seconds.

The Lennox quartet of Tori Gerdes, Jayla DeCou, Holly Gillick and Bergan Musser broke the Class A girls 800-meter relay meet record as well, finishing the relay in 1:42.06. Lennox edged West Central’s previous record of 1:43.86 set in 2023. 

Rapid City Stevens’ distance medley relay team of Evelyn Hurley, Taylor Steever, Brinna Sheldon and Iris Birnbaum broke the meet record with a time of 12:22.51 to round out the girls' meet. The quarter topped the previous record set by Brandon Valley (12:25.85) last season. 

On the boys side, Sioux Falls Lincoln’s distance medley relay team of Nayati Ringing Shield, Teddy Krueger, Frank Vandy and Arvid Nelsen set a new mark at 10:33.47. The previous record of 10:39.01 was set by Bismarck Century in 2024. 

Bismarck Legacy’s (N.D.) Zayden Horne broke the meet record in the 100-meter dash with a time of :10.43. Horne edged the previous record of :10.45 seconds set by Spearfish’s Jaden Guthmiller in 2022. 

Dickinson’s (N.D.) Blake Homiston set a new height in the pole vault event at 16-1. Homiston edged the previous record set by Fargo South’s Brock Larson (16-0) in 2011. 

And Treynor’s (Iowa) Cauy Konz set a new mark during the special 200-meter dash at :21.22. Konz edged the previous record set by Bismarck’s Jeran McNichols (:21.24) in 2024.
