HUMBOLDT — Two premier South Dakota amateur baseball leagues will flock to Humboldt on June 17-19. 

The Cornbelt League vs. Sunshine League amateur baseball tournament is this weekend, with 10 games taking place during the three-day event. Larchwood (State Line League), Wynot (South Central League) and Crofton (South Central League) will also play in the 20-team event. 

The Cornbelt and Sunshine Leagues have had at least one representative win a Class B state championship every year since 2015. 

Six teams in the field — Dimock-Emery, Flandreau, Alexandria, Dell Rapids Mudcats, Larchwood and Winner/Colome — advanced to last season’s Class B quarterfinals. Flandreau, Dimock-Emery, Dell Rapids Mudcats and Winner/Colome were semifinalists. 

The Mudcats topped Flandreau, 16-1, in the all-Cornbelt League final. 

Friday’s action starts with Corsica-Stickney and Salem at 6 p.m. In a matchup of perennial powers, Winner/Colome plays Canova at 8 p.m. to cap off the first day. 

Saturday and Sunday features four games apiece, starting at noon and finishing with 7:30 p.m. games both days. 

On Saturday, the Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks play Larchwood at noon, followed by Platte vs. the Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks at 2:30 p.m. Wynot plays Madison at 5 p.m., followed by Crofton vs. Dell Rapids PBR at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the first day. 

On Sunday, Dimock-Emery plays Colman at noon, followed by Parkston vs. Lennox at 2:30 p.m. The 5 p.m. contest pits the past two Class B state champs — Alexandra vs. Dell Rapids Mudcats — against each other. In the night cap, Mount Vernon plays Flandreau at 7:30 p.m. The Cardinals defeated the Mustangs, 11-1, in last season’s second round en route to their state runner-up finish.
