Cross-country roundup - Spearfish, Rapid City Stevens claim titles at Douglas Early Bird

BOX ELDER —- The Spearfish girls and Rapid City Stevens boys claimed team titles at Friday’s Douglas Early Bird cross-country meet. 

The Spearfish girls scored 44 points to edge Rapid City Stevens (45) and Sturgis (56). Belle Fourche (96) and Douglas (106) rounded out the top five teams. 

The Rapid City Stevens boys won the team title with 27 points, ahead of Philip (76) and Spearfish (79). Douglas (97) was fourth while Rapid City Christian and Belle Fourche tied for fifth with each team scoring 129 points.

Brandon Valley’s Mikah Peters and Harrisburg’s Brianna Reilly win titles at O’Gorman Invitational

SIOUX FALLS — A number of Class AA schools opened their cross country seasons Friday covering a 2.5 mile course at the O’Gorman cross-country invitational. Team points were not kept in the meet. 

Brandon Valley’s Mikah Peters covered the 4,000-meter course in 12:53, well ahead of Harrisburg’s Griffin Smith (13:13) and Watertown’s Ty Sullivan (13:20).

The Harrisburg girls swept the top four individual spots with seventh grader Brianna Reilly 14:08.65, edging eighth grade teammate Hannah Genrich (14:08.81) for the individual title.

Sioux Falls Christian teams sweep titles at Beresford Invitational

BERESFORD —- The Sioux Falls Christian girls and boys cross-country teams easily claimed titles at Friday’s Beresford Invitational. 

The Charger boys racked up 22 points, well ahead of Luverne, Minnesota (45) and Dakota Valley (46). Tea Area (67) and Lennox (71) rounded out the top five teams. 

The Sioux Falls Christian girls easily won the girls title with 12 points, well ahead of Dakota Valley (48) and Tea Area (50). Lennox (55) and West Central (60) rounded out the top five teams.
