CANTON — Some outstanding team races at Tuesday’s Canton Invitational as a number of Class A contenders went head-to-head in cross-country action at the Hiawatha Golf Course. 

The Dakota Valley boys won the team title and scored 33 points, edging Lennox (35) and West Central (47). Tea Area (48) and Ethan/Parkston (68) rounded out the five. 

In the girls race the Vermillion Tanagers scored 32 points, ahead of Dakota Valley (48) and West Central (55). Tea Area (60) and Lennox (69) rounded out the top-five. 

In the boys individual race Dakota Valley’s Joe Cross (16:16) edged teammate Jack Brown (16:29) and West Central’s Jonathon Roth (16:54). Ethan-Parkston’s Evan Bartelt (17:18) and West Central’s Benjamin Strunk (17:24) rounded out the top-five. 

In the girls race Dakota Valley’s Sophia Redler 19:35 edged Tea Area’s Jaycie Babb (19:46) and Dakota Valley’s Alex McCullough (20:09). Vermillion’s Callie Radigan (20:13) and Ethan/Parkston’s Ella Pollreisz (20:16) rounded out the top-five.
