There’s no shortage of scorers on the Class B girls basketball all-state team.

The all-state team, which was selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association, is headlined by six first-team members that can all score in a variety of ways.

De Smet’s Kennadi Buchholz, White River’s Maleighya Estes, Corsica-Stickney’s Avery Broughton, Aberdeen Roncalli’s Madelyn Bragg, Viborg-Hurley’s Coral Mason and Ethan’s Hannah Bartscher make up the all-state first-team.

Buchholz is the Class B Player of the Year and is making her third consecutive all-state team. She led the state runner-up Bulldogs with 20.4 points and 13.3 rebounds per game, while she blocked 66 shots this season. A 6-foot senior center, Buchholz was named the Spirit of Su award winner at the Class B state tournament and earned all-tournament honors. Buchholz graduated as De Smet’s all-time leading scorer.

Estes guided White River to its second straight Class B tournament, finishing seventh this season after winning the 2021 state championship. Estes was a second-team selection as a junior and earned all-tourney status two years in a row. This season, Estes logged 27 points, seven rebounds and three steals per game. Estes, a 5-foot-7 guard, finished as the state’s 17th all-time leading scorer with 2,214 career points. She will play basketball next season at Dakota Wesleyan University.

Just a junior, Broughton is making her fourth consecutive all-state team and her third first-team selection. She was a second-team honoree in 2019. Broughton has led the Jaguars to four straight state tournaments, including this season’s third-place finish and again earned all-tourney honors. A 5-foot-11 do-it-all forward, Broughton averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season. The University of South Dakota Coyote commit has racked up 1,909 points, 1,013 rebounds, 343 assists, 235 steals and 214 blocked shots.

Bragg was a Class A second-team honoree in 2021. The 6-foot-2 guard/forward guided Roncalli to the consolation championship and the Class A state title as a junior. This season, Bragg averaged 15.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. The Northern State University signee scored her 1,000th career point in March.

Mason is making her first all-state selection this season. Mason helped the Cougars win this season’s state championship, becoming the first No. 8 seed to win Class B since Baltic in 2002. She received all-tournament honors at the state tournament. A 5-foot-7 junior guard/forward, averaged 15.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this season.

A second-team selection last season, Bartscher rounds out this season’s first-team squad. Bartscher averaged 20.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for Ethan, which lost in the Region 4B semifinals to Bridgewater-Emery. Bartscher, a 5-foot-9 shooting guard, scored her 1,000th career point earlier this season.

Aberdeen Christian’s Mallory Miller, Colman-Egan’s Mackenzie Hemmer, Bridgewater-Emery’s Julia Weber, Aberdeen Roncalli’s Morgan Fiedler, Corsica-Stickney’s Rachel Gerlach and Viborg-Hurley’s Denae Mach were selected to the second team.

Faith’s Kaycee Groves, Castlewood’s Maddie Horn, Faulkton Area’s Isabel Aesoph, Herreid/Selby Area’s Kendell Sawinsky, Gayville-Volin’s Molly Larson and Gregory’s Jessy Jo VanDerWerff were third-team selections.
