Dec. 20 Girls Basketball Roundup - Mitchell tops No. 4 Rapid City Stevens in Friday action

Mitchell 56, Rapid City Stevens 52

RAPID CITY — Mitchell edged Class AA No. 4 Rapid City Stevens for a girls basketball win on Friday.

Mitchell’s Lauren VanOverschelde finished with 16 points, four rebounds and three 3-pointers. Carsyn Weich had 13 points and five boards. Londyn Hajek posted 12 points, five rebounds and three 3-pointers. 

For Rapid City Stevens, Taaliyah Porter tossed in a game-high 32 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She added four assists. Hayden Thornton posted seven points, while Haley Falcon scored six points. Halle Peterson grabbed seven rebounds.


Hanson 38, Scotland-Menno 30

ALEXANDRIA — Kylie Haiar’s 24-point burst helped Hanson take down Scotland-Menno in high school girls basketball action.

Haiar tallied 24 points and five rebounds, Ava Doyle collected five rebounds and seven steals, while Kendra Endorf added five assists in the win.

SM’s Nora Robb tallied nine points, Kailen Odens had five points and five rebounds, while Kylie Guthmiller totaled six points in the loss.


Northwestern 62, Wilmot 34

WILMOT — Northwestern pulled away from Wilmot for a girls basketball win on Friday.

Northwestern’s Ashley Haven finished with 24 points, while Elexis Kramp had 14 points. Adriana Ratigan recorded nine points. Breelyn Satter scored seven points and Ella Boekelheide scored six points.

For Wilmot, Addison Heinje tossed in 21 points. Jade Cameron scored eight points. 


Viborg-Hurley 68, Irene-Wakonda 34

IRENE — Three players scored in double figures to pace Viborg-Hurley to a girls basketball win on Friday.

Viborg-Hurley’s Charley Nelson finished with 20 points, six assists, four steals and three rebounds. Kendra Gilbert and Jenna Graves scored 16 points apiece. Gilbert added five rebounds and three steals. Tatum Lyons logged five points.

For Irene-Wakonda, Madison Orr had nine points and five rebounds. Emily Oien posted five points and three steals. 


Sioux Valley 68, Baltic 28

VOLGA — Three plays scored in double figures during Sioux Valley’s victory over Baltic Friday.

Keyra Kruse tallied 20 points, 13 rebounds and six assists, Talya Vincent added 16 points and four assists, Amari Ward tallied 13 points, two rebounds and an assist, Kailey Cradduck collected eight points and eight rebounds, while Liberty Trygstad totaled seven points, six rebounds and six assists in the win.

Baltic’s Harper Kortemeyer tallied 12 points, three rebounds and an assist, Meredith Larson added nine points and five rebounds, while Caitlyn Pickett collected five points and six rebounds in the loss.


Deubrook Area 64, Oldham/Ramona-Rutland 25

WHITE — Three players scored in double figures as Deubrook Area defeated Oldham/Ramona-Rutland during Friday’s high school girls basketball action.

Mataya Gouws and Kylee Johnson led the Dolphins with 16 points apiece, Matte Bauman had 13 points, while Carly Engelstad tallied six points in the win.

ORR’s Bailey Hyland had nine points, Brookelyn Riedel tallied four points, while Bella Malisch totaled four points in the loss.


Sunshine Bible Academy 35, James Valley Christian 25

HURON — Sunshine Bible Academy took down James Valley Christian in high school girls basketball action Friday.

Breanna Thieman tallied 11 points, three rebounds and three steals, Ciera Mickelson had seven points, eight rebounds and three steals, Soliel Mickelson added six points, 10 rebounds and three steals, while Abby Hinman cracked six points, six steals and four rebounds in the win.

JVC’s Dara Olowu-Davies had six points and six steals, Janiyah Waldner tallied six points, six rebounds and five steals, while Addison Kleinsasser totaled six points and eight rebounds in the loss.


North Central 64, South Border (N.D.) 54

ASHLEY — Ella Batie and Amree VanderVorst each surpassed 20 points to defeat South Border Friday.

Batie totaled 29 points, Amree Vander Vorst had 21 points, Tylee Vander Vorst added seven points, while Alaina Dosch tallied four points in the win.


Sioux Falls Christian 63, Elk Point-Jefferson 57

ELK POINT — Three players scored in double figures as Class A No. 2 Sioux Falls Christian took down Elk Point-Jefferson Friday.

Maya Nelson led the Chargers with 14 points, Emory Lems had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals, Sydney Schaap totaled 11 points, four rebounds and four steals, while Aubrie VanBeek and Ruth Dvoracek each had seven points in the win.

EPJ’s Cera Schmitz tallied 16 points, five assists, three steals and three rebounds, Bentlee Kollbaum had 15 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists, Kaitlyn VanRoekel totaled 15 points, two rebounds and two assists, while Ashley Brewer had eight points, four rebounds and three assists in the loss.


Huron 59, Rapid City Central 41

RAPID CITY — Hylton Heinz’s 31-point burst lifted Huron past Rapid City Central during high school girls basketball action Friday.

Heinz finished with 31 points and seven rebounds, Chloe Carr had six points and three rebounds, Allison Janes tallied five points and seven rebounds, Abagail Harrington tallied five points and eight rebounds, while Aly Davis totaled five points and three rebounds in the win.

RCC’s Chloe Shreve tallied 15 points and four rebounds, Leah Landry had 10 points and 14 rebounds, Olivia Pierce totaled six points and four rebounds, while Aubree Saenz had six points and five rebounds in the loss.
