Douglas boys, Custer girls win team titles at Center of the Nation Invitational

BELLE FOURCHE — The Douglas boys and Custer girls picked up team titles at Wednesday’s Center of the Nation Invitational in Belle Fourche. 

Douglas scored 134 points, ahead of Custer (114.5) and Belle Fourche (90). Spearfish (67.5) and Rapid City Christian (56) rounded out the top five boys teams. 

In girls action Custer scored 113 points, ahead of Spearfish (98.5) and Douglas (82). Rapid City Christian (71) and Belle Fourche (69) rounded out the top five teams. 

Douglas’s Wyatt Balliew won the 800-meter run (2:02.19) while Brock Morgan finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.87) and 300-meter hurdles (:43.31). Douglas also won the 1,600-meter relay (3:45.32) and the sprint medley relay (4:05.35).

Bennett County sophomore Rush O’Neill won the 110-meter hurdles (:15.64) and the long jump (22-08.50). Fellow Bennett County sophomore Caysen Soderlin won the discus (132-02).

Spearfish’s Thomas Hughes was a double winner claiming the 100-meter dash (:11.18) and 200-meter dash (:23.53). 

Other winners for the boys were Belle Fourche’s Gavin Pearson in the 400-meter dash (:52.74), Spearfish’s Casey Nauta in the 1,600-meter run (4:34.52), Rapid City Christian’s Lionel Hinson in the 3,200-meter run (10:24.96), St. Thomas More’s Maxon Speed in the shot put (46-03.75), Custer’s Roland Sedlacek in the javelin (163-11), Rapid City Christian’s Adam Stimes in the high jump (6-04) and Lead-Deadwood’s Cruz Mollman in the pole vault (13-03).

Custer won the 400-meter relay (:45.97), Belle Fourche won the 800-meter relay (1:35.09) and Custer won the 3,200-meter relay (9:28.70).

The Custer girls picked up wins from Jordyn Larsen in the 100-meter dash (11:98), Jayda Bennett in the 300-meter hurdles (:48.25), Karyn Ellerton in the discus (123-00) and Ciana Stiefel in the pole vault (12-03). Larsen teamed with Addie Sander, Kelsey Steifel and Bennett to win the 400-meter relay (:50.10). Sander, Ciana Stiefel, Larsen and Kiran Pesicka teamed up to win the sprint medley relay (4:33.05). 

Bennett County’s Peyson O’Neill won the 100-meter hurdles (:14.72). 

Winners for Belle Fourche were Mya Nowowiejski in the 200-meter dash (:26.96) and Lia Mundt in the 800-meter run (2:29.04). 

Other winners for the girls were Douglas’s Kaelyn Knudson in the 400-meter dash (1:01.10), Spearfish’s Peyton VanDeest in the 1,600-meter run (5:00.04). Dupree’s Maddlyn Red Bear in the 3,200-meter run (12:44.26), Rapid City Christian’s Kayla Dilka in the shot put (38-08), Harding County’s Kamry Padden in the javelin (111-03), Sturgis’ Danca Dschaak in the high jump (5-00) and Rapid City Christian’s Sadie Marshall in the long jump (16-10.50).
Other relay winners Wednesday were Lead-Deadwood in the 800-meter relay (1:51.65), Spearfish in the 1,600-meter relay (4:18.58) and Harding County in the 3,200-meter relay (11:44.37).
